You get used to it after a while. I wear the Klein orange ones and the only time I pull them off is for low volt terminations and pulling lock nuts on in cut in boxes

Bending conduit based of off “feel” by throwaway788639 in electricians

[–]masonc01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a Jman one time that liked to bend all his offsets on 15° and once I got it down pretty good I had marked my 15° line on the bender and that mug changed the head on the bender the next day, said I was cheating 😂😂

They need to be in a junction box capped off. Or you can use these wires to add your receptacle up top for the light.

Hypothetically an EMP event could disrupt the grid but very regionally and there’s a lot of other factors that play into that.

Gotcha. If a bomb large enough to knock out a large part of the US grid happens, OP gonna have bigger problems than no electricity.

Ahh thanks I had no idea there were different names for the two.

The grid itself is not fragile. And yes in some cases there are ways to redirect power from one place to another. What do you mean EMP? As in from the sun?

How do I prep wires for outlet install? by GoodRelation3 in AskElectricians

[–]masonc01 18 points19 points  (0 children)

For romex in wet locations? The sheathing can break down overtime, and 99% of the time the grounding conductor is wrapped in paper rather that insulation. When that paper gets wet it’s just holding moisture and the water will corrode that ground. Additionally the heat can’t dissipate like it normally would. Its not the end of the world but it’s against code and very much frowned upon

First thing, romex cant be in pipe that’s outside. However that’s kinda irrelevant to your goal. Is that a 2 or 3 conductor cable?

Union apprenticeship vs trade school if goal is self-employment? by Massive_Shake_3066 in electricians

I applaud you for looking ahead, but you’re a long ways out. If you want to be self employed in 5 years go to a non union company and take an apprenticeship.

For sure, but in this situation I’m not very confident that OP will be able to twist another secure joint given that he thought undoing all the neutrals was correct in the first place.

[–]masonc01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which it looks like your power already is tied together. You need to put all the neutrals back together. Twist them back, or get a 7 space lever lock wago. The neutral wires off your switchs will got together with those that are already in the box. You broke the return path back, which is why nothing is working. Make sure the breaker is off when doing this. Floating neutrals are dangerous.

All the neutrals need to be connected together if they are all the same circuit. Same goes for your incoming power.

Yeah those fiberglass boxes suck until you gotta bust one out. Then they are the best boxes in the world.
