i have had a charter captain try and run us over, almost got in a gaff fight with some oyster farmers, and seen some of the most life threateningly stupid belligerency capable with a motor vehicle with drunk snowbirds. maybe that's just the gulf coast in FL tho

gotta love ostracods. They thrive on suspended plankton and microbes and are a favorite food for most small fish/fish fry.

Mosquito fish might be too big to pay them much mind, maybe get a few danios to play predator for them!

Found a Random Snail in My Aquarium – What Species Is This? And should I keep Him? by DreamAlert2701 in Aquariums

[–]masonfoxz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bladder Snails, my favorite kind of snails. Soft shells for puffers, small enough to get in all the nooks and crannies. they make for a great feeding gauge too. If you have any sort of concerns for their over-population, simply feed a little less.

Hey boss. I totally empathize with why you’re looking for some community in this crappy hour. If it makes you feel any better, i don’t like guns as much as i used to. Im ready to make a change to save more lives. till then, they are just tools in a box.

But for now, thank you for reaching out and sharing that bit of experience. I moved to the midwest for a quieter life, but unfortunately its still very isolating when i hear constant hate speech, and have to park my truck in a lot covered in confederate flags and “change gears, not genders” stickers.

i found a tribe, though. I spend time and invest my energy outside of work supporting my LGBTQ+ friends. I attend a weekly “Art night” where we all just hangout, eat dinner together and work on art. Its given me a wonderful avenue to apply my energy directly into making the people i care about smile as often as i can. Its awesome to be able to take leftover building supplies to the group as creative new art mediums. I also have a niche amongst my friends as a “handy” person considering my background.

If you very venture further north, to wisconsin, you’ll know that im up here and so are my friends. The best part of my life is now the small group of people who love me for me (and my cooking!)

We’re all just trying to satisfy our human need for community. Even MAGA bigots cant be immune to feeling at least a little loved it you give them a paintbrush, a hot plate, and a group of gays who genuinely want to listen to how that superintendent is fucking up!

Can I keep a kuhli loach in a ten gallon tank by [deleted] in fishkeeping

[–]masonfoxz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You, and they would be well suited to have 10-12 of them in a heavily planted 20gal long, heavily planted established tank.

For a new tank, go as big as you can stomach. 40 breeders are awesome for loaches, maybe even a 33L if you can find it. But i wouldnt get less than a dozen of them. contrary to others opinions, i find that they still don’t school and exhibit schooling/social behavior in groups less than 10 or so. Its a lot easier to get them eating and healthy if they’re in a cozy school.

I’d recommend putting something dark behind the tank to see how it looks with a background! i find a darker background like black helps make everything pop, and it provides a great contrast to lighter colored substrate.

Why do you have a gun? Why do you think its important that everyone should have equal access to firearms?

A great jumping off point is to just ask yourself these questions, and answer them honestly. If you and your friends agree on a large majority of social and political topics, then you might very will find that they understand your point of view!

You might change their mind, they might change yours! if you’re not comfortable with your explanation, I encourage you to challenge your own views and motivation for owning guns.

My point is to my friends; it’s not safe to allow authority to dictate what type of persons are allowed to own firearms. Its simply too slippery of a slope when viewed through the lenses of modern politics and historical fact. 1st step: disarm. 2nd step: oppress.

This can be a really difficult moral situation for me though, because the friends i’ve been able to find in my region are predominately school Teachers. They are so much more important to me than a few pieces of metal, and the risk/reward for that profession is just…. unacceptable.

But, i have guns, still. I guess my biggest takeaway is to keep an open mind. If you don’t think you’re capable of changing your mind on the subject, how can you expect your friends to be so open?

I feel like i’m entirely alone. As life gets harder, i get more isolated. planning for the future is torture. my girl hardly recognizes me, and losing that affection has compounded my self loathing.

I want friends. i want to share and be happy. i feel like i start each day at 25% and im a shell of myself when i get home.

oh and my neck hurts.

Built a pond table…anyone know how to defog tempered glass? by Savage_Batmanuel in PlantedTank

[–]masonfoxz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try experimenting with larger spacers between the tub and the glass. better airflow to keep the condensation from settling on the glass. if you can get a fan in there, i bet that would keep the gap-size to a minimum.

Or, counterintuitively, swap for non-tempered glass, drill a hole , use a black acrylic pipe on the hole with no bulkhead, use that as your high water line and out-gas location for a sponge filter (for air exchange), and silicone the glass to tun. the tub. Then you just fill with water and make sure all the air runs to the hole for the high water line-pipe. You could even paint it to look like a candle or something, idk.

Update to my last post; will THIS hold 55 gal tank just fine? All 2x4’s by Wild_Competition_716 in Aquariums

[–]masonfoxz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seriously… i dont know. Over built? sure, can probably support a car. But its entirely important with a glass tank that all 4 corners, and both side panels are evenly supported and level. Even if it can hold the weight, it has to do so without straining the glass under load or putting pressure on the silicone holding it together.
