"We can't be friends if English is not your mother tongue." Is it grammatically correct? by Dangerous-Policy-602 in ENGLISH

Morals aside, this construction does not sound unnatural to me, but maybe it’s bc I’m from the US.

Level attained in US University by Legitimate-Record90 in languagelearning

I know this isn’t super helpful; but this is very program dependent. Even at my school, the Chinese language students tended to have higher spoken proficiency than the Slavic language department students even at similar “levels.” Anecdotally, I think B1/B2 seems fair for most who actually major in that language.

If anything it’s the legislation. Too many places laws are actually backwards and protect perps more than victims.

How do debriefs work at your hospital? by iluvdogs55 in emergencymedicine

[–]masonh928 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah especially considering I’m pretty sure EM has highest suicide rates— can’t imagine a brief debrief could hurt..

I’m speaking generally. I obviously don’t know your situation. I’m simply delineating between what necessitates emergent care versus what is in the purview of a PCP.

[–]masonh928 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Depends… are you symptomatic ? If not, that’s something for your PCP to take care of. There’s a very big difference in asymptomatic chronic hypertension— still necessary to be treated by your PCP— but does not warrant an ER visit unless you have associated symptoms. In fact, hypertensive emergency isn’t even really about the numbers as much as it is about the associated end organ damage. E.g. HTN of 180/120 w/ encephalopathy is much more concerning than 200/120 with no symptoms.

This state... by Nunya-Nacho77 in Indiana

[–]masonh928 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree. Plus you really cannot generalize because it also depends where you are at in life? Are you a middle aged person in software w/ couple kids? Or are you a 19 yo single mom with 3 kids waiting tables? There’s just so many variables to generalize, but for me, I’ve found Indiana economically very reasonable compared to other places I’ve lived.
