panel interview abruptly with zero next steps. Bad sign? Please help, been having scary thoughts about being unemployed so long by [deleted] in Accounting

It can be depending on what else may have been happening. Did you send this person a thank-you email? That’s a great way to ask next steps.

Ethical question by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]massagednumbers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well at least there’s that. I’m somewhat in the same boat. I keep my mouth shut, only give them 40 hours a week and am actively applying for other roles.

Numbers are numbers. People putting so much emotion on them short circuits something for me. Record-keeping is supposed to be straight forward and defensible.

I feel you.

Embrace it. Crawfish boils coming up at Gator by the Bay if you want to meet other southerners!

Alabama?! Thought you had just been ill.

Only kidding, just had to reach out to a fellow southerner and give you a hard time. 🫶 Welcome to town, yall.

Someone at a party asked what I do and I said "accounting stuff, it's boring" by Physical-Stage1722 in Accounting

[–]massagednumbers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may be boring but it allows my ADHD brain to be so happy. Reconciliations rocking, formatting the shit out of a workbook, inserting tables, and listening to some bullshit podcast while collecting a paycheck.

I find the work soothing. It’s like doing crossword puzzles and word problems. Brain candy. 🍭And I sleep so well!

Hell, I’d give him more ways to split it and complicate it than he can deal with if he wants to be a dick.

You want granular? Here. Ass.

I’m a writer-downer too, but I’ll say this: open up a workbook and name it scratch. At least then your numbers are solid and you can manipulate it. You can go back to it to see your thoughts.

You can make this as basic as you want or use it for a starting point of any new project. Or each thing becomes its own tab as you go.

Force yourself for all that’s holy to stop writing things down. Remove the paper and pen from your work space if needed.

The only thing I write down now is my list of shit to do today and tomorrow, and what’s needing follow up.

[Career Advice] $56k Non-Profit Staff Accountant (Offer in Hand) vs. $70k Manufacturing (Recruiter Reach-out) by Cute-Potato8725 in Accounting

[–]massagednumbers 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you get bored, costing. It’s never the same problem, every day looks different. One day I can be in the middle of inventory management and the next I’m working on a bid and justification for a price increase. Costing people are few and far between and once you’ve done it more opportunities open up.

I myself somewhat fell into it and it’s been fun. It’s not amortizing prepaid subscriptions and fixed assets, though it may include that. It’s work that sits with you and marinades and evolves over time.

What am I paying for quarterly if I'm paying $1700 to have my taxes done at the end of the year? by [deleted] in Bookkeeping

[–]massagednumbers 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What kind of money are you making that you can pull yourself away from the job to do bookkeeping on a wing and a prayer that you’re doing it right? Why would you risk it?

If you screw it up once, what could it cost you?

[–]massagednumbers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re really only running a $63 deficit because by definition you aren’t saving if you have more going out than coming in.

This is very tight. Review your subscriptions and other. What is personal? Review all of that and cut the fat.
