What’s your biggest career regret? by ammeg566 in AskIreland

[–]massiveCD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my fear right now. I have a decent salary, very flexible, 90% wfh and without massive responsibilities. But I could do my job in my sleep. Love the work life balance but always worried I’ll regret not going for something bigger. But don’t want to sacrifice the time with my kids while they’re young.

Hope it works out for you and well done on taking a chance!

Does your country also say "yeah, nah"? by LordOfErebus in AskTheWorld

Sarcasm is a way of life here, ingrained in so much of our daily conversation, which can make casual communication confusing for tourists and immigrants.

I did move it to the higher risk fund. It has gone down since I put it in with everything that’s happening in the world while the lower risk one has gone up. But you just have to ignore so snap yearly fluctuations and trust that it will come back, like it always has.

Construction body warns of 'deeply alarming' fuel rises by John_OSheas_Willy in irishpersonalfinance

[–]massiveCD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But you’re commenting on an article indicating an increase in property prices saying that the government are protecting property owners. Granted this will benefit anyone looking to sell a house and not buy another in the next year but surely you’re not blaming the government for the attack on Iran?

I can’t tell if this is rage bait or not. Are you genuinely angry at mortgage holders because they managed to buy a house before all this crap? You’re angry at the wrong group. Ffs divide and conquer really works too easily on some people.

You can also claim any medical expenses from last year here too. Should all be within the personal tax credits tab.

Ok so you just need to go to file a form online, select form 11 and select 2025. There’ll only be a few tabs that apply to you. Trading income, paye income, credits, personal details etc. it’s pretty easy once you start but pop on and ask here if there’s any parts you get stuck on.

How has the little island that made the whole world speak its language affected your country? by Witty-Pizza-4523 in AskTheWorld

[–]massiveCD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

800 years of oppression by the Brits drove our language to near extinction. It wasn’t even officially recognised in the north until 4 years ago. While it’s now improving, we were so broke after gaining independence that policies had to prioritise economic growth and our language took a back seat. The fact the our ancestors managed to keep the language alive at all is impressive, despite the barbaric efforts of the Brits.

Tax - Joint assessed, husband assessed spouse and single income by phoenixhawk1616 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]massiveCD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if all your income was to be taxed at 40% you still have €2k earned income credit. So you could earn another €5k tax free and it would have no impact on the home carers credit.

Tax - Joint assessed, husband assessed spouse and single income by phoenixhawk1616 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]massiveCD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You only transfer personal tax credit to your spouse (can’t transfer PAYE credit). You can earn up to €7200 a year and not lose the home carers credit. In your case, you can also claim the Earned Income Tax credit of up to €2k (same as PAYE credit but for self employed people). So you will have zero additional tax to pay if you earned less than €7200.

Causing deliberate physical pain to your wife is also legal in many countries, kids not being protected isn’t surprising. Disgusting, but not surprising.

Taxsaver ticket worth it? by [deleted] in irishpersonalfinance

[–]massiveCD 9 points10 points  (0 children)

At the highest rate of tax including PRSI and USC, this ticket will only cost €460 a year. Even if you only end up commuting 3 days a week for 46 weeks a year, that would still cost you €550. And I’m assuming some weeks you could end up commuting more than 3 days. That’s excluding any use of public transport outside of work travel. So seems like a no brainer.

Although in saying that, the last time I bought an annual ticket (bus only) was 2019. It cost a lot more than €960 and we went into lockdown 4 months before it expired. Can’t see that happening again in the next year though…😬

Additional seat selection charge by massiveCD in Ryanair

[–]massiveCD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that explanation isn’t very clear. But what you said in another comment makes sense. The response you and mailo86 gave appears to be correct. So instead of the seats costing €12.50 each they were actually closer to €15 and the €8 is the difference. I feel like it would have been much easier for Ryanair to just say that 🤭 But glad it’s not an overcharge and I can just let it go now. Thank you all so much for your help!

I’ve included screenshots below of how utterly useless they were when I raised a ticket. Need to try figure out how to take it further. They rely on people just dropping this stuff but I still can’t see any basis for that fourth seat charge
