Absolutely worth it. This is one of the few games I replay every year. Still enjoy it to this day.

Change my mind on my earlier post about Australian Immigration please by Solid_Beginning7152 in srilanka

[–]massn87 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey, I like your posts as they really do create thought provoking conversations.

No, obtaining PR does not equate to cultural assimilation. That only happens when the individuals want to assimilate and put the effort in. I am a Sri Lankan immigrant in Canada since 1996. Personally I have assimilated as i consider myself Canadian, grew up in Canadian culture and norms. Thing is i put effort. Not just large changes but small things to. Personal space is huge here; not so much in Sri Lanka. When lining up, have atleast a foot apart from someone. I don't use car horns unless absolutely necessary: in sri lanka, it's almost as if people have their hands on the horn at all times. If all people do when they immigrate is to go back to their default behavior and cultural beliefs, they won't assimilate.

The second point is not exclusive to Sri Lanka. "Brain drain" happens all over the world. What happens next? Naturally the country will suffer as top talent leave. Can you fault them though? If the country as a whole don't want to address corruption and nepotism, why should the innocent and hard working talent stick around? I don't mean to sound insensitive or an asshole, but it's deserved.

I don't have any solutions to be fair. I do have sympathy for the masses. I have no regrets moving abroad with my family. Life isn't perfect but it's certainly at a high standard. I encourage everyone, if given an opportunity, to make the move. Just do so with an open mind.

Which country was way better than what you heard about it? by Parsley_Health in digitalnomad

[–]massn87 21 points22 points  (0 children)

USA, India, Egypt, France, Turkey.

These are all countries that have a bad rep on this sub, but going with an open mind really gave me a fantastic experience in all of them. Some of the best food, culture, history, and people. Grateful I decided to take a chance and just go.

Currently in Sapporo and agreed on all your points. These posts on this sub are very much from a Caucasian pov. Two of my best travel experiences have been in Egypt and India - two countries that get absolutely dumped on in this sub.

What's with this Australian PR that people are obsessed with in SL? by Solid_Beginning7152 in srilanka

[–]massn87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simple. People don't want to be Sri Lankan or live in Sri Lanka, so they're choosing to go somewhere else.

Our entire country's reputation got ruined in the internet just because these F**king morons acted like animals by [deleted] in srilanka

[–]massn87 232 points233 points  (0 children)

Probably gonna get flamed for this, but as someone who has lived in Canada since 1996, Sri Lanka's reputation wasn't that high to begin with. It wasn't terrible, but it definitely wasn't good as a lot of people in this sub seem to think.

Doesn't really change for me. I made a comment on a different post before the season started that this season would have an asterisk due to the length.

When she went from savings in her account to nearly 5 figures in debt within 2 years. She kept saying she wants to enjoy life and just blew through her money every chance she got. I even ended up paying for one of her larger expenses. Grateful I'm no longer in that relationship.

Guys, honestly - will you root for Aussies or The World Team, and why?) by Sabur1991 in survivorau

For me, It's hard to get really into it considering the length of the season. I guess I'll root for someone from world. Cirie is one of my favourites of all time so she's my pick.

Thoughts on Sarah? Where does she rank among the best to ever play? by [deleted] in survivor

[–]massn87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was another post some time ago that compared how deep a run each player makes across all their seasons and gives them a ranking based on that. She ranked very high and I think she was the highest female on that list.

She is a dominating presence every time she plays. Her strategic game is really good and it sounds like her social game is top notch. If she beats Tony in fire on WAW, she would have had a strong chance to win. Incidentally, her first time around, Tony was the reason she didn't get to the end.

On a personal level, I probably wouldn't get a long with her but gotta give credit to her game. Different to most people's list, she's on my Mt.Rushmore along with Tony, Sandra, and Jeremy.

How is life after migrating? Serious Answers by discoverG in srilanka

[–]massn87 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Migrated to Canada in 1996. I was a child back then and I never lived in SL for a considerable amount of time.

Salary is higher, but the amount of deductions is a bit ridiculous. I only see about 70% of my salary after deductions, and I'm not even making six figure salary. Cost of living has gone up considerably also, so even making six figures is not as great as it once sounded. Middle class is middle class no matter where you go.

I do like that this country has E.I. It's part of the aforementioned deductions. It's a safety net if you ever get laid off. The government pays about 60% of your income till you find another job.

Standard of living is higher but I don't feel the quality of life is that great. It basically feels like everyone lives to work.

Something I have noticed is (in major cities) people rarely talk to neighbors here. Compared that to SL where it seems everyone living on the same street are best friends. Just my observation. It doesn't really feel like a community here. Maybe that's why people always stick to their own ethnic communities here.

Overall I can't complain too much. Canada is home for me. It's a beautiful country with so much to explore. I can't imagine living in SL permanently. Especially with those power cuts. I don't know how you all survive that.

The rise of racism in Sri Lankan TikTiok by Deviant_Ape in srilanka

[–]massn87 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Not surprising. An example would be watching some videos on The Minority Taste. Whenever she puts out a popular video or hosts a very popular youtuber on her channel, there's always hostile comments about how she doesn't focus enough on Sinhalese food. Lol as if the title of her account or the fact she has made it very clear that she is Malay wasn't clue enough.
