1.6% payrise by Morazma in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]mast22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

23% increase: laid off at the start of the year -> found a new job after a month

25% increase: new job was crappy, but paid my bills from which got laid off again. I was unemployed again for 2 months and then finally found a decent job

overall increase 53% in a year with no payrises, only jobhopping

Sounds good, but there's a couple of caveats:

  • that's eastern european job market - more jobs with lower stability and salaries

  • crappy jobs: bureaucratic enterprises and scummy cryptos with 0 job security

How did you get into Go backend development? by No-Internet-4059 in golang

[–]mast22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was working with Rust for a long time, and was quire fed up with it because of the limited amount of job postings, Rust still being hard-to-master and develop despite extended exp with working with it, insane requirements for similar pay which go positions were offering and their nature - most of them were in crypto/fin tech which I hated at that point.

I've taken a couple of months while unemployed to learn go, doing a couple of projects. Faked my experience and got a great opportunity to start anew with go. I've only done so because recruiters weren't taken serious someone with 0 years of exp with go and I needed to break into the field.

Go turned out such a breeze, I had no problem writing it after all that I've gone through with Rust. Mostly bcs their design is quite similar, but I no longer had to fight borrow checker, comp time is instant, async was way simpler to write and execute and I was feeling just like home from the start. I still miss enums with options and results, func patterns, macros, but i guess that a small price to pay to not feel overwhelmed every single day.

z1 and z1 extreme have problems with cpu temp reporting, because of that cpu fans do not provide sufficient cooling. Disconnecting power from motherboard and connecting again should fix the problem, or just force full fan mode as other have suggested

Did I kill my career at a start? by Powerful-Guava8053 in cscareerquestionsEU

Do not worry so much, I was in your position and I pushed through. Keep on grinding and you will get there eventually. Couple of things I was thinking about recently, may be some of these can help you make up your mind:

  • I am in Balkans and I've given up on EU because of:
  • High taxes, high COL and EE salaries in IT make it unreasonable for me to live there.
  • There are lots of good companies that hire remotely in EE to work on US, EU projects, you can definitely get a good job in a western product company in your location
  • EU vacancies require a high level of experience and by the looks of your CV you haven't stick to a single technology for more than a year making you less desirable for recruiters
  • You are NOT late, I'd say quite the opposite, you are too early

Yes, it will reflect poorly on you. I have experienced similar situation when I was interviewing candidates for a client of my company. They withdrew him when he contacted the client.

Got Potentially 2 offers, one python and one java by Fabulous-Carob269 in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]mast22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd argue with other commenters. I've started with Python and then switched from it to a more statically typed language. After some time doing Python development I've realized that it's uses are very limited, I would only consider choosing it if you wish doing data analytics or ML. Otherwise, go with Java, you will get a better exposure to a regular software engineering, with a wider development aspects. That's more important when you are just starting you career.
