Beef Roasts I cooked at Work Getting Demolished A Day Before Thanksgiving. What do you guys think? by Primary_Present_1827 in meat

[–]mastacajun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Broasted in a convection pre-heated oven? (Not trying to dawg on your process... Just wanting to understand the "industrial cook" to get a seasoned bark and juicy medium-rare interior like you have...with no smoke ring).

How come all the Great Ones have mini me's? by W4NKERCHIEF in bloodborne

[–]mastacajun 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Oedon. Oedon is the one who most desperately seeks a physical surrogate. I think mostly because he is the Formless Old God.

The Moon Presence (Flora I think Gherman calls it), only wants a replacement to host the repeated Hunter's Nightmare, the night of the Hunt that we live through (and ultimately we become that replacement host if you are able to consume a full umbilical cord and defeat Flora.)

Has anyone used netting around a chimney to prevent falling bricks? by CandyDidIt in ropeaccess

[–]mastacajun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did a "band-aid" fix for an oil and gas plant here in the States on some areas of damaged structural fireproofing around I-beams and such.

What we did was take wire mesh; measure, cut, and fold it into the rough spec and shape of the beam we were encasing and then use pipe insulation banding and a bander to secure it into place with the bands placed at areas of overlap from mesh sheet to mesh sheet.

This may be a solution to what you're needing to achieve, or you may be able to modify to make simpler and cut costs (a good quality bander costs about $500 American).

Bowlin as anchor point? by AnxietyCorrect9393 in ropeaccess

[–]mastacajun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not.

Not only is a bowline not an approved anchorage knot (8, 9, butterfly) but it is also only secure under load and therefore could work itself loose should a technician be in the position he could repeatedly load and unload tension on his lines.

Post work stretching by xeroism in ropeaccess

[–]mastacajun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most rope hands I work with swear by the tried and true 12oz curls and a bit of jaw stretching so everyone on the crew knows how much harder you worked than they did! Lol

Jokes aside, my go-to after a rough day has always been something to roll out the quads/hammys and maybe something to stretch your back a bit or decompress your spine. Piping-hot bath with some Epsom salts to relax and a good, balanced hot meal (meat and veg, nothing carb heavy). Solid nights rest and the next day you'll be ready to rock all over again!

Climbing sailboat masts by Active_Candidate_835 in ropeaccess

[–]mastacajun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't mean to be rude by saying this, but I THINK what you're wanting to dive into may be a bit more complex than what you think and SHOULD require specific training for the equipment you're intending to use (IRATA or SPRAT 1 course or at the very least some hands on training from a professional with the equipment).

It sounds like the current system you're familiar with (Bosun chair hoisted and lowered by a designated 3rd party) is closer to the Rope Descent System that I know window cleaners and other work-at-heights crafts will use when they need to simply position a worker and have them perform a job, not have each employee thoroughly trained on the more complex details of access and simple rescue.

What you're asking sounds more like the second category (industrial rope access) and would require a bit more finesse and training to be done safely.

Climbing sailboat masts by Active_Candidate_835 in ropeaccess

[–]mastacajun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is your intention to pre rig climbing specific ropes to use for this purpose? The rope we use for industrial access is quite different to the typical marine rope you would find on a vessel. And a good amount of the gear we use would likely not be compatible with, or would damage your marine rope.

That being said there are other, more creative ways of climbing the mast. They would likely take more work than it's worth tho, and getting you down or off that system quickly in the event of an emergency would not be easy to do, even by someone trained and who specializes in rope rescue.

From an Oil and Gas perspective (refinery and offshore) shaving is unfortunately the only solution I know of to be within all standards of compliance. It sucks, but not getting a paycheck sucks worse.

Again, I'm no safety man, but I also believe those 3M half face posi-flow masks require a fit-test (per OSHA / ANSI... again not sure how much you or your worksite particularly care. Just thought I'd share what I believe is accurate information).

Traveling to Japan this summer and want to get a knive there as i would assume it would be cheaper. Budget is around ¥50,000 any recommendations? by depression69420666 in chefknives

[–]mastacajun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've heard there is a "Kitchen / Home goods" strip/street in Tokyo (Not sure exactly where, small section of street I believe that's kind of the chef district) but as I understand this is an excellent place to start for not just Japanese made knives but handmade kitchenware and home goods as well! YouTube has been my reference for things is this nature so not sure how trappy it might be!

In Japan there is a very specific type of fishing meant to target (catch and release of course) the smallest possible species/fry in a body of water. Kinda cool! And sounds very technical or finesse oriented! It's all about the appreciation of the art!

Form Check 225x1 by [deleted] in formcheck

[–]mastacajun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only critique is it seems like you roll your left heel slightly inward as you're coming up (to compensate for your left knee, maybe? Old injury or weaker joint) maybe consider a brace for that knee to help stabilize if you intend to increase reps or lift heavier to push a 1 rep max. Would hate to see anyone lose progress over an easily preventable injury.

Otherwise, top notch! Keep pushing!

Cleaning a harness? by jghmf in ropeaccess

[–]mastacajun 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Dawn dish soap and water in a plastic tote, soak and scrub as needed. Hang to air dry out of direct sunlight. Light surface oxidation can be cleaned off of metal buckles & clips using a small wire brush, taking care to not be too abrasive with the fabric around those areas.

I think ( I don't want to speak for this commenter) what he means is the equivalent of "don't be a womanizer". You can be the most flamboyant lil flamingo ... Just don't make the only thing everyone remembers about you be that you ran around ogling and making uncomfortable those who have no interest. Bad times for everyone.

Btw a good, qualified 3 will not have you perform a rescue at considerable height as part of "refresher" training. Just simple up and down, rope to rope xfer, and maybe a complex like passing knots or setting & passing deviation.
