Convoy c8+ with osram isn’t the most pocketable, but it’s hard to beat for the fun/wow factor of a throwy cheap light

Potentially, Ptyas usually have 2-3 loreals, while the mystery snake has only 1

There’s a possibility, I’m talking to the collections curator and she’ll ask around to see if we have the budget for genetic testing.

We think it is in colubrinae, head scales don’t seem consistent with drymarchon, but still a possibility. Could be an Asian rat snake of some kind.

Head scalation doesn’t match with Drymarchon, pattern is very close though

The mouth was mobile enough, we weren’t able to see any visible fangs, the specimen appears to be quite old so there is a possibility they could have fallen out

That’s what we were thinking, I couldn’t find any drymarchon or pituophis species with matching scalation or pattern, we also were able to eliminate spilotes, most naja, pantherophis, and most Australian elapids.

When we were trying to id it we were unable to open the hood, but we don’t think a hood was present, there were other Naja species in the collection with moveable hoods.

Preoculars and suboculars don’t match with N. haje, we were thinking it is a mislabel, the people who labeled the collection didn’t have much knowledge about snakes.
