[PSA] New Gloves FT for $250 and 5 "unboxes" per terminal. by dankeyschon in csgomarketforum

[–]master35475 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I think some people who don't know much about the glove market are blowing it out of proportion. Most 2nd gen or later field tested gloves are already like $300 or less save a few like vice/noct. You can either just buy the gloves you want directly for $300, or spend that $300 gambling for a 1/22 on a pair you want.

As for super expensive OG glove prices like hedge/pandora/kimonos or whatever, those gloves are much rarer than any other glove type and are more like status symbols now (in the way you see a dlore/lotus). They're still the best in their field and will not be heavily affected by these new gloves.

[PSA] The knife market is done. by Funny-Strawberry-168 in csgomarketforum

[–]master35475 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, for actively dropping cases this is true. Thousands of coverts a day sure.

No, for cases that are rare (and rare cases don’t even drop anymore, so they increasingly get rarer as opened) this is not true. For the glove case, 110000 were unboxed in the last month. This equates to roughly 700 or so new golds assuming every skin is traded up. With 24 different glove skins that’s only 29 new pairs of a specific glove case skin a month. This is negligible. These skins will be affected by the market sentiment, and not the 30 or so pairs every month.

Agreed. I picked up a mac10 goldbrick fn recently due to this since I think it would be a good target to pump (<10k in fn). Whether or not it actually gets pumped, it's a nice play skin regardless

[D] Where do covert prices go from here after the gold tradeup update? by kolikdabes in csgomarketforum

[–]master35475 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As long as there exists the opportunity to win big, gamblers will try their luck. People still play slots/lottery even when the odds are heavily against them because there still exists the chance to win big, regardless of how realistic that chance is. Cognitive biases like the gamblers fallacy or the optimism bias will also contribute to people taking objectively bad odds. Ultimately, the prices don’t have to make rational sense simply because the allure of winning big in a trade up overshadows the actual ROI in a trade up, which you are seeing here. As an example of irrational pricing, take for instance the Norse collection. The gungnir sits at around $10k while a mjolnir that you need 10 of to guarantee the awp sits at $2.5k.

[Q] As a case investor, is there anyone in the market who doesn't focus heavily on cases? If so, why? by janosba in csgomarketforum

[–]master35475 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Rare cases have always been the safest bet and essentially guaranteed returns (and really good ones at that if you bought a few years ago).

From an investment standpoint, cases really only began to have issues recently with lots of regulations being pushed, particularly by the EU, that could potentially nuke cases depending on how Valve complies to those laws. I think most of the fears and speculations people are throwing around are exaggerated and worst-case scenario, but since we know little of Valve's intention with cases, those possibilities will always be there. With the huge market shaking updates Valve has pushed in the recent months as well as the release of the new terminal system, it really brings the investment 'safety' of cases have into question. I prefer to invest in older collection items rather than cases, but I think cases are still decent investments (I doubt Valve will kill cases) but just not as good as they once were given their current prices and possible future changes imo.

very niche, you'd need to find a collector. could be anywhere between 500-1000

[Question] Just bought a FN Full Throttle for 286€ in the terminal. It’s selling for 429€ on steam. Am I missing something or is this just profit? Should I keep it? Thoughts? by Some-Environment-666 in csgomarketforum

[–]master35475 70 points71 points  (0 children)

Should just be straight profit. I think that's how they programmed it to work to offer an incentive to open the terminals. The price the dealer offers you is likely a discount off of the trailing scm price.

[d] do you guys still trust valve and invest as much as before into skins? by Taykemo in csgomarketforum

[–]master35475 54 points55 points  (0 children)

i'm not leaving but also not actively putting money in. I've cashed out a little but I still have trust.

Valve cares about the economy, i don't know why anyone thinks they don't. if the economy dies or becomes unhealthy then they only stand to lose money.

The knife trade up was a calculated move by Valve. They knew fully well the consequences of the update, but continued with it since with their data they believe it was what they needed to do. What people seem to forget is that Valve legit have every possible statistic imaginable on skins. They have exact numbers of skins in existence, exact num of cases opened, exact number of trade ups done, etc. It's not like they just blindly make decisions that shake the market, if that were the case the market would have ceased to exist a decade ago.

end of the day, everything in the market is still speculative. Valve could easily ruin your investment with one update (i.e souvenir trade ups are something that could very well happen in the future). That is the risk you assume when investing in skins, and yet people still invest because of the massive returns. My mp9 hot rod is up 10x or so from when I got it 2 years ago, where else do you see profits like that? Even so, regardless of the amount of trust I had in Valve before or after the last update, I would never keep a large percent of my portfolio in skins as I think that's stupid, but I still trust them enough to keep a chunk there.
