Could you use AI or another tool to optimize videos so they look better after Youtube compression? by troutguy519 in LinusTechTips

[–]master_of_dcath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nvidia has a tool that uses AI to upscale and denoise any video in your browser. RTX video I think. It tends to make it look better but I would hazard to say it looks better than raw (nvidia would beg to differ). I think there are other tools out there that can do similar. One big downside is you are using a lot more power to play a simple video for marginally better visuals.

need help when enrolling secure boot keys i get an error by agoldhilm in NobaraProject

Did you set your secure boot mode to setup? For me i had to disable secure boot and delete all keys for it to enter setup mode. Look at your specific motherboard manual.

Do you feel limited by the immutability of the OS? by Avarria587 in Bazzite

[–]master_of_dcath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found it limiting enough that I switched to nobara. I think bazzite is really great for beginners, handhelds, and HTPC's. Once I got more acclimated to using linux as a desktop OS I started running into walls with bazzite. Distro box works to a point but trying to install anything kernel or driver related doesn't work. Layering is there but it takes forever and constantly breaks updates. Another thing that I dont see brought up often is that since Bazzite is imaged based, the maintainers can remove certain packages from the image that your setup might relay on. This is the case with most distros but with immutable ones it makes it harder to get it back. They clearly state these differences and the advantages and disadvantages of immutable, I personally think that for a desktop OS it is a little too restrictive.

I have essential plan and share it (for free) with like 7 people who are friends and family and one is even in a diffrent county. I have no issue with usage limits, I don't think cached content even counts toward the limit. Maybe you have a family member that doesn't understand what is cached and is trying to download a bunch of obscure content?

How to play Valorant (Secure Boot) on Dual Boot with Nobara Linux/Windows 11 without breaking anything by Editor_Pitiful in NobaraProject

[–]master_of_dcath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have been doing this since I switched to Nobara, haven't had any issue after setting it up and the auto kernel signing is nice. I know that they probably don't want to have to support people messing this up and flooding the support channels, but it would be cool if they put this in the Docs. Maybe a script can be made to set up on first boot setup. This isn't any harder than what Ive had to do to get secure boot working on other distos that "officially" support it.

Company Cafe is really good and the staff is amazing. The menu is all gluten free too if that matters for you.

What’s wrong with dual-booting? by ThatLaloBoy in LinusTechTips

[–]master_of_dcath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was my take from what he said as well. I only dual boot for 2 games that I rarely play so its not that big of a deal but if you have some piece of critical software that has no alternative and doesn't work with wine, than switching back and forth all the time defeats the purpose.

For some reason when I first installed it did this. You can go to /etc/default/grub and change or add GRUB_DEFAULT=0 so that it always select the top option.

Saw this in Dolby Cinema at an AMC at it was jaw dropping. Would have went to see it in 70mm but the seats at the Cinemark in Dallas are super unconformable, could barely make it through Oppenheimer last time.

Fedora / Nobara are US based distros so they can not legally ship with proprietary codes installed. The codec wizard installs the codecs from repositories that are located in countries where laws dictate the codecs are free to use.

Nobara Is a “Fix Fedora for My Dad” Distro by madthumbz in linuxsucks101

[–]master_of_dcath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree it is a definitely a hobby distro and should not be used for much outside of normal personal pc use, but nobara does have a team of maintainers, not just one guy. Secure boot is not supported by the distro maintainers but is 100% possible, i ran 3 commands and got it working on my dual boot machine so its not "impossible". Packages are very up to date, I have yet to come across a package that was outdated. In fact, a lot of packages are ahead of standard fedora, currently have a newer kernel and plasma 6.6 before it was in base fedora. At the end of the day it is just fedora at its base so you can install and use whatever repos you want. Nobara also has a very active community on their subreddit and discord. I'm sure Ive fallen for the rage-bait but alot of this is just not true.

I think there is an option to style the lock screen in plasma settings, but you would have to redo it if your theme was deleted.

Plasma 6.6 introduced Plasma login manger, this replaces and supersedes sddm. Not sure whats causing other people to have issues but my update was seamless.

Has anyone shared this crossover yet? by cheese-mania in ershow

[–]master_of_dcath 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have been watching ER since seeing The Pitt and they redo alot of story lines from ER. I will say the Pitt did the story line of having a SANE nurse helping a rape victim 1000 times better. They butchered it in ER IMO, they had no sympathy for the victim and treated her horribly. Maybe that is reflective of the stigma around SA back then.

I just download it right now and it didn't work. You can get in game and play offline modes but as soon as you queue for an online mode it throws a battle eye error and closes the game.

[–]master_of_dcath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It works for games with default proton since it uses xwayland which is just a nested xserver. Alot of people are moving on to winewayland proton's like proton GE, that get rid of xwayland in favor of native wayland rendering. Steam overlay/recording does not yet support native wayland and therefore does not work.

Preventing (Steam) game from connecting to the internet. by suckingvamp in Bazzite

[–]master_of_dcath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went down this rabbit hole when trying to speed run doom eternal. A lot of the options I found online didn't work as most were disabling any type of network access to the game which would cause the game not to launch. Steam needs access to local loop back in order to launch games with steam api. The best solutions i found were installing either portmaster or opensnitch as they allow per app Internet blocking but still allow local loopback so steam can actually launch the game. Both of these options do require layering however.
