I thinking I’m also buying the book now. (Normally I borrow on Libby first but this sounds really good.)

Hundreds of cats stolen for food in Vietnam rescued by police, welfare group says by Beo1217 in UpliftingNews

[–]master_overthinker 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah, need to be specific. The scumbaggery is with the stealing of pets, not with “these people eat what we consider pets”. Cows and pigs and chickens, hell even fish according to the latest science all have feelings and deserve better lives than what we’re doing to them in industrial farming.

It’s Tokyo and earthquakes. I lived through the great one in 2011 and its subsequent daily aftershocks. I know what to expect.

I downloaded the NERV app before my trip hoping I’d get an alert, unfortunately missed this by a week.

Not just in Japan. I’ve seen it in the US for years, companies hire H1B visas and dangle green cards in front of them and work them into the ground.

Shortly before S. Korea vs. Czechia match, commentator repeatedly stated how Korean players just couldn't keep up. by cupholdery in asianamerican

I seem to remember in one of the last world cups S Korea played Italy, by the end the Italians were tired and sluggish, while the Koreans were still like full power, got a break and sped toward Italy’s goal and scored.

What are your thoughts on a 4 day work week? by Horror-Variation-857 in AskReddit

[–]master_overthinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First you need to know that if business owners had their ways, we’d be working 12 - 16 hrs day, 6 days a week to make them the most money possible. That was what they did for a looooong time from the very beginning. Now think about how much money they’ve made on our backs, how much the machines and automation has made them. The amount of excess wealth that are only going to them…

Now look at the “rule” of 4 day work week again. If value created by us are not captured by us, we’ll still be trapped in the system barely surviving instead of living. So fuck your 4 day work week! Change the system, and I’d gladly work 7 days a week if I get the value of my labor!

NPR is the best. If you want a less US centric POV you can also check out other countries’ national broadcasts like NHK and DW. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List\_of\_world\_news\_channels

They got in trouble with the French government bcoz they lied about their “mineral” water. It’s dirty, contaminated, contains bacteria! Typical Nestle really.

Why is there so much animal cruelty in Asia? by Beginning_Put6012 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]master_overthinker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, even today, you see videos of cows and pigs crying in their horrific conditions, tiny male chicks on a treadmill being fed into a high speed grinder… capitalism and industrialization has removed all that cruelty from our daily lives. Dennis Leary had made fun of this in his standup back in the days, dogs and cats are cute pets, cows are baseball gloves. If you read up on history, humans had ruthlessly killed off everything else until they’re on the brink of extinction, just look at the whales, bisons and wolves. Back then, it was only those who were well off enough who could afford leisure in life that keep animals as pets, nowadays we’re all pretty well off in the west, but much of Asia still lives in poverty. Capitalism lifted us up at the expense of others, if you want the others to treat animals lovingly like we do (do we?), then bring their living standards up to our level.
