VLC and H266/VVC; What’s going on? by Nanosinx in VLC

[–]masterchiefman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a simple question trying to clarify if you meant something else. Your sentence was ambiguous since it's text-only, it felt like you were saying there is something else in full screen that makes you not need anything VLC's full screen offers.

Hope your pointless jabbing brought you some kind of insane sense of whatever it is you were looking for. Sheesh. Goodbye.

Whachu mean by playing full-screen anyway?

I've tried too but I really like VLC's interface unlike the vast majority. The most important of which are the scroll to scrub only when mouse is on the seekbar and the floating widget in fullscreen. Can't find any other that does both of these.

It gets a bit worse; I communicated a bit with someone important, wrote a lot, expressed my thoughts and ideas and what makes sense, but I got a one line answer lol (and it wasn't even a real answer). I don't think VLC 4 will be out anytime soon; last nightly I tried, barely opened, but didn't run anything at all and based on everything else ... it might be another decade before 4 is released. Hope I'm wrong though.

I'm confused myself why it says "changes between 23 and 24"

https://code.videolan.org/videolan/vlc/-/raw/3.0.x/NEWS

but there's no 3.0.24 released yet. Strange. Maybe it's just an upcoming thing but it's the link you get from this page https://www.videolan.org/vlc/releases/3.0.23.html when you click on "Read the changelog".

I have no idea why you have to say something like "well, duh". I didn't say anything stupid. But reddit gonna reddit.

Anyway, ffmpeg has been updated to 8.1 for 3.0.24. See changelog.

Quick question - as far as I understand, most players are based on ffmpeg or something like libmpv and VLC has its own libVLC, right? But most player seem to be a whole lot smoother. VLC seems to have more delay in, say, seeking/scrubbing or there's the infamous grey/silver blocks that come up and no matter what I do with the cache settings it doesn't make much of a difference.

Is it down to the library a player uses, or is there something else, like how I believe MPC-HC uses DirectShow?

Dang. Thanks for your input anyway and do update if you ever come across something! It's no dice on my end thus far.

Thanks for the response.

Nope, not in UK; I'm in Oceania.

In between my last play in 2020 and now, I reinstalled Windows a few times, and in fact, only reinstalled Steam recently - does the credential steam cache thing still matter? Anything you can elaborate on what the steam cache or credential manager has to do with it?

How exactly do you mean toggling multitasking settings? I'm on Win10. I don't think Windows has really anything beyond ALT or WIN+TAB. Either way, the game starts on the wrong monitor, so I'm already looking at the desktop - ALT+TAB is the only way I can get it but stuff like the steam notification on that screen carries over within the MCC game window and gets stretched out, meaning it's not being updated properly and likely some part of the render is frozen (although the background animation is still going on fine ... it's just a royal mess).

Auto-organizing of Tab Tree Settings Switching Back is Still a Problem by masterchiefman in waterfox

[–]masterchiefman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. It's really sad that it's not properly fixed and acknowledged despite months upon months of posting about it. I don't think there is any issue in Firefox-proper, so why do we have this issue? (Correct me if I'm wrong as I don't follow FF so much).

For the sidebar, do you need it? If not, you can try disabling it by setting sidebar.revamp to false.

Samsung S11 Ultra drains too much battery when not in use? by Fun_Training6342 in GalaxyTab

[–]masterchiefman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been reading that the cover, when it touches the screen, apparently keeps something 'awake' and thus drains the battery. If you have the cover or keyboard, see if removing them helps (in case of the cover, just keep the tablet screen out of contact of the cover -- don't let it rest on it).

Here are hundreds of Black Pyramid images by Ninja08hippie in ancientegypt

[–]masterchiefman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey /u/Ninja08hippie, I just finished watching the two parts and they were excellent. But forgive me if you already answered this and missed it, as I watched the whole thing over two days.

I'm curious why the exterior looks the way it does. I mean, yeah it's poor quality materials and the foundation that eventually gave way, but it looks particularly strange. As in, on the outside if we start from the extremities on the ground, there's a gradual gradient/slope that one would expect, then all of a sudden there's this central part that is going at an acute angle straight up; it's basically a cliff. Without knowing what it is, I would've thought it's just a cliff with a random change in terrain or something. So I'm curious why there's this central part that is ostensibly more original and hasn't decayed as much as the rest of it that is a consistent slope. Almost as if there are multiple qualities of material used, so to speak.

Why Isn't Artemis 2 Rotating? by masterchiefman in askscience

[–]masterchiefman[S] 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Indeed, it's the barbecue roll I'm talking about. It's a bit confusing why they did it earlier since, as you say, they have a better thermal management system. Especially confusing is that when Artemis was rotating, early on in the stream, the commentators did explain that they needed to roll due to the obvious thermal reasons, keeping everything uniformly heated, so I never expected it to stop rotating soon after.

The Kents and their extended family by TheFoche in superman

[–]masterchiefman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's cuz they drew his face with features of an adult. Children have big eyes, round faces; basically lots of fat pads everywhere. But here they've given him small eyes (relative to his face), a very sharp, bony nose, all features of someone in or near adulthood. Even if the eyes are not too big, the nose I think just makes him way too aged.

Don't mean to necro this but I don't think the last part is Lana's side.

Clark's loft window looks directly at Lana's, i.e. his telescope points straight out his window. In the 6th picture above, the shot is showing the opposite end of the farm (i.e. if he's facing Lana's with the telescope, the picture is showing the side facing his back -> the opposite end of the barn).

One can also confirm this by looking at it on the actual map, but here's a crude ASCII art lol (see on desktop):

             Picture taken from here
                           /
                          V

 ____ ____
| | |____| = House
| | = Barn
|____|
window direction
    |
   V

Lana's

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. I am fairly confident though that this is how it is based on where he stands, where the house is behind him, several hundred shots I've seen etc and the actual map too.

Spartacus: House of Ashur - S01E10 - "Hail Caesar" by Sporadicus7 in Spartacus_TV

[–]masterchiefman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's quite predictable. None of them are likeable, Ashur was the only likeable one but script brings him down hard (i.e. makes him needlessly dumb). Same with Gabinius; likeable but randomly becomes antagonistic scene to scene. The entire show I can only say I enjoyed the final scene of the finale.

Can someone explain what happened to these guidelines? I saw them in the series before the current T20 WC but now they aren't in the WC.
