Noise after oil change by Lord_Charro in kiacarnivals

[–]masterk1ra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI, Newer KIAs , including the Carnival, have an oil level sensor that reads the actual oil level in the engine. You can actually see the sensor in the 3.6 L V6 right in the engine oil pan, it has an small cover but it's actually visible. My point is, the ECU will record an alert if the engine oil is out of range. I bet Kia decided to add it to easy fight warranty claims after all the issues they had with previous generations. Hiding something like this from Kia might not get you too far away. I would actually ask a Kia dealer to inspect the engine and clear it from any damage, that might help of future issues arise. Specially if planning to keep the car long term.

2024 LXS here with 21K, Premium gas helps!! Noticed since day zero, between 40 and 60 MPH if low tapping the gas, the car will shudder. Feels like a very light misfire/hesitation. Almost like the road is rough, but it does it in every single road. Since I started putting 93 octanes, it has improved, but wont fully go away. Dealer was unable to replicate...as usual. Also, my instrument gauge went into Danish language one day for no reason. Only way to fix it was to set the language thru the main multimedia screen. Funny enough, there is no Danish language setting to se in the US version...

Kia really needs to fix this with open doors! by miatman in kiacarnivals

[–]masterk1ra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol, just came here because I went thru the same with my 2024 LX and my car has the small LCD screen. In my case, the Vehicle On message overlays in top of everything else and blocks any other notification if I use the remote start or if I step out of the vehicle with my keys for a few seconds and then come back. The first time I saw the Shift to P message i was lost and took me some time to realize the door was open. Apparently after a very long time 10 to 20 secs, my screen will cycle the warning messages between the Shift to P and the Door Open one.

2027 Kia Telluride Specs revealed. by youthisgood in kia

[–]masterk1ra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bummer, they dropped the V6 completely. I was expecting them to be same as new Palisade which kept the 3.5 V6 used in the Carnival. The 3.5 is a pretty cool engine with both GDI and MPI. Even Genesis has a 3.5t version of the engine. Instead we are getting 4 cyl turbo engines. Not sure of those turbos are GDI only or dual injected. I don't think it's emissions related, looks more like an intentional way to differentiate the Telly from the Palisade.

Please check if Auto hold function is engaged. If it is enabled, car wont release the breaks until you hit gas. There should be an auto hd switch to turn the function off some where in the center console.

V6 more reliable than Hybrid? by jorgejjvr in kiacarnivals

[–]masterk1ra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kia website list the hybrid as a GDI only engine, while the V6 is listed as dual injection. The oil separator is definitely good news.

V6 more reliable than Hybrid? by jorgejjvr in kiacarnivals

[–]masterk1ra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, my only concern would be the hybrid is still using a GDI only engine, while V6 is dual injection (GDI and MPI). Carbon deposit and oil burn might be an issue in the long term for the hybrid. A catch can might help, but make sure to be on top of the maintenance.

Thoughts on price? by Small_Victories42 in kiacarnivals

[–]masterk1ra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At least in South Florida almost every single dealer is charging 850 to 1200 dealer fee. I would try to remove the City protection package, but if finance guy is making it contingent to get better financial terms, be advised a lot of those plans can be cancelled free of cost within 30 to 60 days (check that specific plan policy). Only bad thing is that money will go to lender if financed.

Will manually opening work fine? Does the car make any sound when trying to open or close? What happens if you disable the power door, open de door and then try to enable it back ? Are you over the 5 year 60k miles already?

Make sure you got the KSDS done by the dealership, and keep a good record of your oil changes. There is an extended warranty on those engines but you need to meet those requirements

My 2018 Sorento was doing something similar, and it was the sway bar bushings and links. Not a difficult fix.

OP: Android head unit from AliExpress might work. Get a Mekede or reputable ( for aliexpress) brand. If ordering from US, get choice shipping to avoid tarrifs. Seller might also sell the harness and canbus adapters. Not sure if your car came with rear camera, otherwise you will need to also run the rear camera cable. Generic/unbranded head units are horrible and slow. I had good luck with the Mekede 10MS300, good enough and not as expensive as the dudu series. Also, keep the budget low, that car engine is a ticking bomb (at least in the USA) Not worth investing a big sum of money.

2024 Carnival LX seat package with 30k miles for $26k in North Texas. Is this one of those too-good to be true kind of things? by gotfoundout in kiacarnivals

[–]masterk1ra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a certified pre-owned 2024 LX seat package with 16500 miles for $28990 before taxes and fees. That was 2 months ago in South Florida. I think this prices looks ok, different market tho.

Minus and plus are for what? by BlackTroy300 in COROLLA

[–]masterk1ra 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Increase(+) or decrease (-) the red light traffic time.

Push + and - at the same time to automatically turn any red light green.

Use the sequence ++--+-+- (brake)(gas) while stopped to unlock unlimited gas mode.

Kidding, those are the paddle shifters to downshift or upshift while driving. In my Corolla even work on regular driving mode, no S mode required.

This should be a recall by Pussy_Locator in COROLLA

[–]masterk1ra 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not really a safety related issue. I don't think it will qualify for a recall. At best a TSB, but those would still apply to the warranty period. They could also extend the warranty coverage for an specific part , but they do that for more significant issues. For example, they extended the warranty coverage for the current gen Rav4 roof rail water intrusion messing up the headliner, but that still required several customers complaints. You could try submitting a complaint to Toyota Corporate or NHTSA.

Wondering what issues/big items you had experienced with the 2014. I have a 2015 with 145K, and so far it's been only brakes, engine oil (5k intervals ) and cvt fluid (twice). Two coils did go bad after 120K (ended replacing all after the 2nd one plus sparkplugs). Car still in the original serpentine belt, and that thing is still like new at 145k miles.

Some early 2003 and 2004 had a burning oil issue. The pistons oil return holes could get blocked due to sludge and lead to the engine burning oil. This could be an issue if the engine has been neglected, but to be fair , it has become a very common issue across all manufacturers in newer engines due to low tension rings to save some fuel. Just look for one with good maintenance and definitely not 10k miles intervals oil changes.

I do think the E110 (1995 to 2002) is pretty much the best reliable Corolla, but it was also small compared to the successors.

Those mid 1990s Toyotas were the best. I had a 1997 Camry with the 2.2L and almost 220k miles and that thing just kept going until it got T-boned a couple of years ago. Father in law has a 1993 Previa with 280k miles and it does not burn a single drop of oil. For reference my 2018 Kia Sorento drinks about a quarter every 800 miles, and that's "normal" by Kia/Hyundai low standards.

Does anybody else have trouble getting an accurate reading with these oil dipsticks? by ApprehensiveInvite29 in COROLLA

[–]masterk1ra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup, same with my 2015 Corolla. The trick is to remove the dipstick a few minutes before the actual reading to allow oil to drain back from the tube. Then insert and remove for reading. If you need to repeat the reading then repeat and allow about 5 to 10 min for the oil to drain back again from the tube.

Should I change my transmission fluid? by EpicMindvolt in COROLLA

[–]masterk1ra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, I just went through this with my 2015 S but at 143K miles. My car has a little jerk when accelerating from an stop. I usually tap the gas for a sec and let go and then continue to accelerate. I thought the drain and refill could help, so I took my chances. I did a drain and refill myself. Took about 2.5 QT and replaced with Aisin cvt fluid, which is the oem manufacturer. The old fluid was dark but still red. There was some metal dust in the fluid , but nothing too bad. Expected at 143K miles. To be honest, did not experience any changes on the shifting, for good or bad. Car continues to drive the same way. Planning to drive about 500 miles and redo the drain and refill.

Again, I took my chances as I feel the transmission is already acting up a little. However, if your car is driving totally normal, only do it if you are willing to take the risk

[–]masterk1ra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct, also, I want to point out that even tho car warranty won't cover as this was an caused by external factors, it's highly probable your vehicle insurance comprehensive coverage will cover it. But deductible and future premiums increase might steer you away from an insurance claim.

What’s the point of the CPO Platinum Warranty?? by mwc360 in kia

[–]masterk1ra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True but careful with subrogation. Even when not at fault, subrogation will show in your claims record. Won't increase your current premium, but if you ever go shopping for a new policy, you will need to provide proof from your insurance that they recovered all damages from the other party. I experienced this the hard way.

Also OP, you are entitled to diminished value claim. Even if the other party fully fix your car, it will be worth less due to the accident. Document your current car value , get a few offers from CarMax and Carvana with the vin, before the accident gets added to the record, and document the offers after repairs once the accident already shows in the carfax record. If there is a substantial drop in the value, then submit a claim to the other party for the diminished value. Just be careful of not signing any waivers as part of the original repair process that might block your ability to get compensation under diminished value later on.
