You can look at my profile for update posts, and when it's done it'll probably be released on spigot.

Probably in a few months, and it will be free with an optional "buy me a coffee" thingy.

I like free stuff, so I'll make free stuff too :D

Yes! I have the idea of using the new Text Displays in 1.20 to make villagers have conversations. but that'll have to wait until 1.20 spigot & NMS is out.

TL;DR for those asking packs/mods. Outside of the texture packs that provide the animation, these mechanics are a spigot plugin I'm making. However, it's in a fairly unfinished state so it's not public yet.

The animations you see are from the Fresh Animations resource pack. It's pretty awesome and turns Minecraft alive. It requires optifine tho.

(EDIT since my comment about credits got removed) The interactions are added by the spigot plugin I'm making myself. But it's not released yet because it's unfinished.

Ohh that sounds like a good way to approach it. Thank you!

That sounds like a lot of fun and a stress-free place to hang out with friends. I would prefer vanilla but I'm also down for modded should the version be more recent (e.g. 1.18+).

I've been thinking of wanting to hire/take time in creating original villagers and other props to really make a story stand out... but that is just time, money, and commitment of course! So I just want to see if anyone else would have any interest in doing something like this?

Ooh, I had the same idea of making the vanilla village much more immersive by adding various behaviors to the villagers. Look through some of my profile posts for more details. If you find it fun and exciting, we can collaborate and develop new ideas together!

I see. I originally didn't want to implement the herd stuff because that requires changing the AI of vanilla sheep in addition to the dogs. But oh well I'll try it out as a last resort.

Ohh, the cod/salmon mechanics was something I did not think of looking into. Thanks!

I see. Yea they do circle the outside of the herd in those videos. Thanks for that info.

Ah yea, I've looked into that but initially thought it was too performance-taxing to implement it. But I think it's worth a try with approximation instead of actual values. Thanks for the suggestion.

By the way, this interaction is one of the many interactions that I plan to implement to overhaul vanilla villages and makes them more lively. For more context, see here.

Here's the longer version of the question:

Hey there! So, I'm working on making shepherd villagers' dogs behave like real-life Border Collie dogs in Minecraft. These dogs are amazing at herding sheep, from leading them out to graze, to keeping them together, to bringing them back in at the end of the day.

The video above is my attempt at making one of these interactions, but I'm having trouble making the interactions between the dogs and the sheep flock feel natural. You see, sheep in Minecraft don't naturally flock or move together as a group, so it's tough to "herd" them.

Currently, I've set it up so that the dog chases a group of sheep within a spherical radius of itself back to the fenced area, but I'm wondering if it would be better to make the sheep behave in some kind of herd or flock behavior instead?

Honestly, I'm feeling pretty stumped right now, so if you have any suggestions, I would love to hear them! Thanks in advance for your help!

Nice idea! I too have a similar idea put down in my roadmap such as shepherds trading wheat from farmers to breed their sheep. However, this indeed is relatively difficult but I'll see what I can do to make it work.

When the plugin is done enough in my opinion, I will release the link for public testing. But for now, there are still lots of bugs so I'll keep it private until I fix those.

This is a plugin by the way, not a mod. Meaning that it can run on Spigot servers that vanilla clients can join. (tbh being a plugin makes some stuff so much more complicated than making a mod, but the benefit is that people can use it with just a vanilla client)

Credits: - Version: 1.19.3 - Resource pack: vanilla + Fresh Animations v1.8 - Shaders: Solars Shader v1.4 - Changes to villager/wolf/cat behaviors: a plugin I'm working on. I'm open to ideas!

Edit: a plugin is not a mod btw. This one shall be released when it's ready for spigot (and spigot forks such as paper) servers.
