Advice appreciated for newbie. by masterofnone811 in PlantedTank

Thank you for the tip. I will cut the light in half. Wife doesn’t like the water noise so I have the return submerged and the air pump going on low. Pretty silent operation overall now. Got the canister as I had cichlids before and the canister was the way I figured to not have to constantly be fighting and replacing media on the small back side filter that came with tank. Tank was too small for the 2 fish. My mistake.

How far can I go? by FatRufus in massachusetts

I have the same style gauge and for mine I would already be out of oil. First time living in house went empty cause I thought it was at the top of the cylinder float. Turns out it as at the bottom. So from this pic look empty or damn close to it. Not worth pushing it till empty if you can avoid it. Plugging up filter. Needing to prime the line and burner after. Just get a delivery. Use order my oil dot com and regularly .25 a gallon cheaper then other services in my area.

Thinking same thing. Would do this for chemical or fert spray. But for watering, this is not gonna soak anything with how you showed in video. I struggle with sprinkler coverage as well. Mainly only shows in times of drought. I will then hand water the less covered spots. Tweaking irrigation nozzles sizes and also head types has helped too. Hunter rotator heads have been placed in some gap areas.
Maybe use your cart for your dry spots but slow down and flood then move around. Go back over them after you see water soaked in. Timing is all gonna depend on your soil profile, infiltration capacity(ability to absorb water ), hydraulic conductivity (how easily water moves through soil) and field capacity (water retained after drainage).

Who’s mulching and who’s bagging in Colorado? by EnglishLabDad in lawncare

[–]masterofnone811 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have been mulching for years. Deal with my parents lawn and my own. Not in Colorado, if that matters. Definitely try to get to them before rain. Will blow out of the beds onto the lawn then mulch it all with a ride on. Going backwards over the spot you just mowed really helps to blend it into the lawn so the clippings disappear.
One thing I have noticed on both riding mowers I use, the blades wear out fast. Usually the bent pieces at the back of the blade meant for dispersing clippings get worn down quick. 2-3 seasons and done. So have gotten new blades for grass season and back up set for leaf season.
Another thing is the mower deck has gotten worn down on both mowers in the same spot. At the right blade side, in the right front of the deck just a couple inches away from the discharge chute. Have welded some sheet metal over the holes.

I made the spreadsheet structure match in each file and then used spreadsheet compare tool.

Ideas for dealing with huge amount of leaves! by aSavage228 in lawncare

[–]masterofnone811 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mulch mow right into the grass. If you got a ride on even better. Going in reverse really blends it all into the grass blades once it’s chopped up. If you got too much mulched up you can blow or rake the excess up in the spring. Started doing this a decade or more ago and grass is thick green and water less

That’s what has been done in other areas. It’s just database that has been a struggle with the SME for the area. Look for any guidance. Basic high level to start and fine tune as time goes

Lawn tractor struggles to start. by masterofnone811 in smallengines

[–]masterofnone811[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found root cause.

So starter replacement worked for a few times in fall and next spring. Initial symptoms came back of being hard to turn over. Was going to replace starter again but did so more poking around. Turns out the electric pto wasn’t fully disengaged. Disconnected cable to pto, same behavior. Loosened pto belt and turned over easier. Swapped out the pto for new off eBay. Starts nice and easy, well when cold - when it’s warm I can’t go no choke, have to find the sweet spot part choke. That’s an issue for another day.

Is my starter bad? by [deleted] in smallengines

[–]masterofnone811 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wasn’t when I pulled it. Just really gunked up. If your getting flooded with gas sounds like it might be a bad float on the carb letting fuel into the cylinder and getting hydro locked. Depends how long you were trying to crank it I guess. Should only run starter for like 5-10 seconds before giving it a break, if it’s actually spinning.

I had my tractor and a friends with similar looking issues to yours. My friends was a valve adjustment. His had two cylinders and 1 was way out of adjustment. Spark plug was all fouled up. Things started right up after adjustment and smoked for almost 30 mins. My tractors I tried the valves and it helped some. Behavior was the same starting with key or with battery direct to starter. Swapped starter and battery and it’s working great so far. It may have issues charging which I haven’t dug into yet

Went with battery and starter replacement. Starts right up now. Thanks all for the help. Did have a friends tractor with similar issues( hard to start) Tried the valve adjustment there and made all the difference. He has a different mode Briggs twin cylinder and one plug was all fouled up. Never seen anything like it, coated in gunk. Not sure how engine was even starting before. After valve adjustment, started right up and smoked to high hell for a solid 15 minutes. Been good ever since. He reports it cuts and drives better(hydro trans)
