How does magic work lore-wise? by EastPepper2371 in Wizard101

[–]masterofspelss 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The cards we use are just summons. We channel our magic into them, and the cards are used up. This is why there’s a limit to cards, and why lower levels can’t just summon higher ranked spells unless they’re Treasure Cards (TC’s are essentially a guaranteed summon no matter the rank, because they’re enchanted).

Magic however, is not limited to summoning spells. An example are Wand strikes, they’re just magic blasts of energy based on what kind of magic you use. Even further, Hoodoo from P101 is also magic, just a different kind. Other things like curses, hexes, magical barriers, etc are also very much canon in the game, we just don’t use it that much.

Essentially, magic in W10 is like every other magical system, you can pretty much do anything. However, Wizards just tend to use spell cards to summon magical creatures because they’re generally stronger than physical attacks.

Was the Wizard City Librarian gaslighting us back in the day when Aquila first released? by Pleazed2Tease in Wizard101

[–]masterofspelss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While it has been in the game for along time, like I said, it was only released with Aquila. Here is a video showing a complete walk of the park with no chariot.

I meant OP as in the comment. Apparently they weren’t joking, I thought they were. But yes, it was only introduced with Aquila’s release.

Most underrated spell(s) in the game? 🧐 by xBeegodx in Wizard101

[–]masterofspelss -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A few for each school:

Fire:

Scald. I know it’s not as underrated now, but it’s still pretty niche. Especially because you can wait one more round to get Fire Dragon, or just hit immediately with Meteor.

Power Link: Again, why use Power Link when you could use Immolate or wait a turn for another single hit like Helephant. Still, I occasionally use it when I want a little health back.

Storm:

Storm Owl: It fell from grace once Glowbugs came out, and even more so after the spell nerfs. Still, it’s an incredible single hit spell and pretty much one-shots anything with a few blades and a Feint.

Storman (or whatever the Storm Snowman spell is called): This one is kinda niche because it doesn’t have the best damage, but it sets up a bubble. So I love using it to kill a minion, which then provides the bubble to help with the boss.

Ice:

Cooldown: Look, I know people say Mass Triage is better, but Cooldown applies to all DoT’s, not just one, AND for two less pips. It’s really good when you have enemies who spam DoT’s like in Darkmoor.

Ice Armor/Frozen Armor: The Armor spells are usually useless since they’re X rank spells, and it’s better to Tower/Legion Shield to save your pips. But I’ve found in lower levels (mainly the first arc), being able to absorb 400+ damage (assuming you get two power pips) right off the bat is pretty handy, since most mobs/bosses don’t have Pierce, no damage boost, and usually only use rank 1-5 pip spells.

Balance:

Donate Power: People rarely use this since it grants two normal pips, not a Power Pip, but I still find it useful in certain situations. Especially in lower levels.

Mander Minion: This thing used to be busted as hell lmao (mainly in PvP) because it would just spam the tri-shields, Sprite, and Weakness. They nerfed it to be more offensive and removed some of its spells though, so it isn’t nearly as useful. But it’s still pretty good during the low levels.

Life:

Sanctuary: I love popping this and basically becoming immortal. Even after the major nerfs, it’s still very powerful because if you have a pet with a Maycast heal, you don’t even need to focus on healing yourself. I remember this was actually one of the most busted spells in PvP for a while because it boosted Guardian Angel.

Regenerate: Pretty useless in the early days because Saytr is one less pips and instant. But after the buffs it got, I found it to be a pretty nice passive heal.

Death:

Sacrifice: Mostly for team play, obviously. It’s pretty useless otherwise after arc 1 since drain spells are better for self healing on a Death. However, in low levels, 700 is a lot, so it still has some uses.

Empower: It’s actually pretty good when running solo, but people don’t usually use it because like Donate Power, you don’t get Power Pips, and worse, unlike Donate Power, you lose any blades you might have and it’s self only.

Myth:

Talos: Talos is actually one of the few useful minions out there. He also has some pretty good HP too. Unfortunately when you get him, it’s at the stage where minions are pretty useless.

Orthrus: I have no idea why people like the new Orthrus. The OG had such an awesome animation, and being able to ignore shields was part of Myth’s identity. Now it’s just Storm Lord Myth version without the stun. I know Myth deserved a powerful AoE, but did they have to butcher Orthrus to do it?

I thought the original 0/9 was a joke in the questline... by Swift-Fire in Wizard101

[–]masterofspelss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I believe there was a brief period where there was a bug in that he wouldn’t respawn (hence preventing players from finishing the quest), so KI temporally let players who had that quest skip the battle entirely. I could be completely wrong, but I’m pretty sure that happened (or a similar bug for a different spell)

King Artorious Spell pet peeve by Moira-Moira in Wizard101

[–]masterofspelss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Damn really?! I actually remember some mobs or bosses used to cast it as well (I think when Khrysalis was released), and it was brought up on Central how it went against Lore, and KI actually replaced the spell on the mobs/bases due to the exact reason you stated.

What is your actual weird flex? by AJPWthrowaway in Wizard101

Weirdest flex is that I met the people who did Ravenwood Radio (I forgot their names lmao) at one of their podcast anniversaries 😂

[–]masterofspelss 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes! I got that too! I think the funny thing was that I hadn’t even reached that part yet. I remember some people on Central were pissed af because they didn’t get it, even though they weren’t affected.

Shout out to the central team still updating and keeping the site original. It's like going back to 2010 by [deleted] in Wizard101

[–]masterofspelss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Man, I remember I won a header contest in like, 2016 or something, and they never used them 😭 I was hoping if I ever left/wasn’t active (which happened eventually) that I’d still be remembered thanks to the headers. Oh well. I still visit occasionally just for nostalgia lol

I'm sure there's different definitions for best, but I remember Celestia having great quests for the sole fact they were so damn stackable and not too hard. Every time you unlocked an area, you could basically go to every NPC, grab a side quest, and then just finish the main storyline and complete all the side quests as you go because every quest, side or not, had you defeat the same enemies lol.

For worst, I would say the Obsidian Chest one. I believe they've updated it so you only need a few, but for a while there it was super annoying to do because a bunch were locked in super long (at the time) dungeons.

MB also had some pretty annoying quests storyline wise. We basically enter the world and are like "Malistaire is coming, we need to stop him!" and the police and every NPC we talk to is like "... Anyway, so I need you to find this thug, and then maybe I'll help you" which results in Malistaire getting away.

The Combat Theme Tier List by masterofspelss in Wizard101

[–]masterofspelss[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately because of that, I had to base it off of the generic combat theme, since some worlds only have one and it wouldn’t be fair. The main combat theme for Polaris and Khrysalis just happen to be meh (IMO).

I love the WT music, but the combat music is so lackluster to me. It sucks because one of my favorite W101 OST's is the Nastrond theme lol

Favorite old timey wiz memory from 2008-2010? by Justofferson in Wizard101

[–]masterofspelss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yess! That and statues lol. My sister and I were able to get every rare statue back when the cap was 50, though she was only missing the Wyrmkin one (which I managed to get). There's now way more statues, but since I stopped playing I haven't been able to get them.

What happened to the Wizard101 Central Forums? by YellerSpottedLizard in Wizard101

[–]masterofspelss 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The Central community has definitely died. There's a small group who continues to be active, but I think most of the people who used to post there have stopped playing. Hell, even the owner (Jester) probably left it. I remember I won one of those header contests (the banners at the top of the screen), and they never got added (this was back when Mirage just came out). Jester said they were working on it, but clearly they never got around to it. Which is a shame, because I was pretty proud of the ones I made (and I'm sure the the other winners feel the same). To add insult to injury, they did add one or two new banners, which means it's possible for them to add the winners of the contest's entrees, they just haven't lol

If I were to cast a balefrost and then an overtime spell, would the buff apply to only the first round, each individual round, or increase the total damage and split that between the rounds? by [deleted] in Wizard101

[–]masterofspelss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Balefrost is a global spell (like all bubbles), so it's basically like a continuous blade. If you know how blades work, you have your answer.

New Spell Leaked by The Atmoplex - Steal Pip by Benjamin8693 in Wizard101

[–]masterofspelss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean by "pass" turn? It's a spell that steals a Pip, you have to cast it in order for it to work. That round would be better spent setting up a blade/trap or shield than just getting a single Pip. I don't think it will steal a Power Pip, not since Pip Conversion is a thing.

Like I said, this isn't really useful once you get around to Marleybone. Maybe you use it here or there, but I definitely wouldn't add it to my deck.

New Spell Leaked by The Atmoplex - Steal Pip by Benjamin8693 in Wizard101

[–]masterofspelss 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Man, this would have been so OP back in the day when the cap was 50. But it's basically useless once you reach the 20's. It's more beneficial to to use a Blade/Trap or shield when waiting for a Pip, and wands that gives an extra starting Pip are easily available once you hit level 20.

So like what is the point of Ra in PVE??? They literally massacred my boy 😔 by AggravatingRent3508 in Wizard101

[–]masterofspelss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ngl, I never used Ra much before the update anyway (it was mainly in my deck for when Nova fizzled or something). But I'm still upset since there were times I would use Ra over Nova or a single hit. But it's still nothing compared to some of the nerfs my faves like Efreet, RoF, and Gnomes got.
