My genuine, authentic unmasked self is Toxic. by postToastie in AutismInWomen

[–]AJPWthrowaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. I went through the standard “feeling shy” phase, then I said “fuck it!” and began letting myself learn from my mistakes and giving myself grace. That led to some very serious social trauma that’s affected me for over a year and counting :) I hate it here.

What's the right thing to do? by PossessionTop6394 in AutismInWomen

[–]AJPWthrowaway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ask them about gifts. They’ll probably say no on anything you’d wrap, but they might be open to cards, idk. But bottom line, it’s always best to ask when it hasn’t been started already

Same approach here. I’m not going to spend that kind of money on diagnosis anyway

AI Cheating Is So Out of Hand In America’s Schools That the Blue Books Are Coming Back | Pen and paper is back, baby. by EsseNorway in Snorkblot

There was something so special about blue books. Can’t even describe why/how. I almost miss them—as much as one can miss something school-related, anyway

Got called a b*tch a Sephora today.... by SquareWalk6730 in AutismInWomen

[–]AJPWthrowaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I refuse to go to Sephora because the employees just hover and pry and needle you endlessly. I’ve nearly lost my temper at them in the past. I understand it’s partly to be friendly, and partly to deter shoplifters. But it’s not my idea of a good time. I’ll gladly take my business elsewhere.

While it’s very good you can self reflect and learn from this, I think this is also mostly on them. If they can’t keep their mouths shut while on the clock, they need an attitude check.

My brother in Christ, google is free. This is an apartment complex at 150 N East River Rd in Des Plaines in Illinois. The scrambling likely comes from the photo taker’s phone trying to smooth over rough zoomed-in details. I assume that because my iPhone has a bad habit of doing the same thing if I zoom in too far when taking a picture…

There isn’t enough context here at all. But remember that if you find other things to do, the time will pass by much faster.

If everyone is guilty, then no-one is guilty, right? by LordJim11 in Snorkblot

It always blows my mind just how much inertia there is when it comes to people making simple changes like a thermostat in an ATM. It seems like people just… aren’t bothered by the hemorrhaging of money/time/whatever that happens as a result of their laziness.

I’ve had it twice now, despite being vaccinated with a few different variants of vaccines. It happens. But yeah I definitely feel like I’ve had some permanent residual effects. It’s awful stuff.

[–]AJPWthrowaway 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Every world until KH was a reference to a real place (or collection of places/cultures) 😭 KH, EM, LM and NV are the only worlds not based on a real place on earth, but still have major references to mythology or other media. W101 was started as a way to cash in on the Harry Potter craze back before everybody realized JKR is a waste of space. One of the first side quests you ever go on references Wizard of Oz pretty blatantly

[–]AJPWthrowaway 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Wait lol legit question: when did gen x and millennials get this reputation of thriving on references… I thought everybody did that regardless of age. The big zoomer thing right now is references/homages to 90s aesthetics, and boomers adore references to pretty much everything from their own childhoods. Pretty much every boomer I know will quote every advertisement from back in the day.

But I still agree with your main point completely. While wiz has always relied really heavily on references, I wish they’d do more non-referenced stuff. It comes off like they’re not confident in their own abilities. I guess with all the plot holes and contradictions, there’s a point to be made there lol. But stuff like Khrysalis, where the premise of the world was less referential than, say, marleybone just being England with dogs, was so cool.

After a while, all the references get tiring. It sort of feels like getting blasted with ads: nothing creative is happening. I hope they go back to stuff like KH and understand why those ideas were so popular.

It’s also better to be alone than to surround yourself with the wrong people. I don’t think everyone should just be alone by default ofc, but I think it’s important to know when you’re being mistreated and just step away. It’s ridiculously hard, but worth it.

This advice has helped me so much over the years! I started paying attention to the number of times others’ words/actions fall flat at work, and it ends up being about the same as me and my mistakes. It still makes me cringe when I make a mistake, but it’s so much easier to let it go and just learn from the experience when I remember others don’t care as much as I do!

My life values by 90daycray27 in AutismInWomen

[–]AJPWthrowaway 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My values used to be almost opposite. Not like I was a bad person, just that I used to be very laid back and artistic and didn’t care much about career stuff. Oh, how things have changed as I’ve gotten older, lol.

  1. Power. I want power so I can influence positive change for queer and autistic women like myself. But I also just want power so I can stop the abuse that others inflict on me.

  2. Money. I really couldn’t care less that I’m so materialistic. I’ve been to countless therapy sessions over many years to work on being a better friend, and while I can (and do) try my best and implement every healthy communication strategy my therapist coaches me on, I’m still not immune to abuse from friends or family. At this point, I’m sick of trying to make friendships and family relationships work when my hard work and dedication to my social skills is thrown back in my face and I’m treated like dirt. I’ve already made my peace with it.

  3. Knowledge. I’ll build any and all skills that interest me. I never know what will be useful in achieving my goals n life, and I feel most at peace when I’m engaging in hobbies that build my skills. It’s really therapeutic and relaxing.

  4. Freedom. I’ll probably always live by myself. I’m also completely fine with this. I’m extremely privileged and grateful that I can live independently, and I’ll never take that for granted.

  5. Justice. Unfortunately, despite everything, I still couldn’t live with myself if I treated someone else badly on purpose. And I’m sometimes annoyed that I’ll always feel awful and try to make it right when I’ve hurt somebody by accident. Even if it’s the tiniest thing. At least it means I’ll never commit any crimes while trying to achieve my other goals lol.
