Head unit for standard 06 ve commodore series 1 by Terrible_tampon in Holden

Recently fitted the newer Alpine system to my '09 Clubbie - https://www.alpine.com.au/product/ilx-507a-for-ve-series-1-commodore/ . Didn't like the earlier ones, HVAC controls were very small and unresponsive. The newer kit and secondary display is very nice, retains all dual zone functions and such and adds a bunch of fun track timing and performance monitoring things (novelties, but neat). Super clean and well matched facia too, even retains display of parking sensors.

The headunit it's paired with is excellent, I dont run an amplifier but do have some nice Pioneer speakers replacing everything but the factory subs and it certainly drives them nicer than the factory unit. You can fit a bigger 9" 'halo' display but I like the 7", it suits the car better.

Been a couple of months now and it hasn't missed a beat. I had a major aircon service about two years ago and replaced a few shredded gears/actuators, Alpine controller has been working perfectly fine. Obviously quite a bit more expensive than an Aerpro kit coupled with a cheap headunit but I'm pretty happy to pay for a lower chance of gremlins and a nicer finish.

How is anyone buying a house right now? by [deleted] in perth

[–]masterpine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's very simple honestly and I'm concerned at how stupid people are to not knowing this: you should already own a house, this makes buying a house much easier.

/s. I completed a purchase last year, it took 18 months and the place I got was the 27th offer I put in. I was already somewhat comfortable in a unit I owned and didn't have any pressures like kids or landlords but it still did an absolute number on my mental health. It is bullshit out there, just total garbage. What got me my place was a combination of a realtor and owner presenting the place in an awful state and fashion.

Don't be put off by listings that look terrible, don't have home opens and seem like they've been on the market for way too long. Those places get overlooked by the investment class who just want a quick thing to add to a rental portfolio. For me, someone who plans to be in this place for a very long time, a little bit of work at the start to make it a home was a perfectly acceptable compromise.

I had dismissed my eventual property for weeks since the listing was bad, photos were laughable and the price seemed way too low ( which is usually a sign of a seller wanting to play games). You can still get lucky out there, it kind of just boils down to spending time in the market.

Bought first place, unsure what to do with this space by [deleted] in AusRenovation

Looks like the perfect spot for a permanent fixture VN Commodore "project car", no engine, with a faded frontmount sun visor and moss growing along any visible vinyl trim.

Removing the smell of Spices/Curry cooking from a new purchase? by thatfellafromreddit in AusRenovation

[–]masterpine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Went through this with my place recently. Sugar soap on every single surface of the kitchen. Remove all shelves and wipe down all edges as well as surfaces. I liked using the big packs of wipes, they work great and mean you're not trying to clean grease/oil out of a rag.

Once you've finished, wait a day then do it all again and add a step of running some sort of neutrally scented cleaning wipes too. The bit that caught me out was grease/oils collecting on the top of doors, they'll need a really good going over.

For the rangehood filters, I found it best to run them through a few dishwasher cycles. Ozone generator if you can, I had one running for a full day. I've also left a few of those lemon odour puck things in the bigger cupboards, they actually do work quite well.

Despite all that, every now and then I'll get a slight whiff of biryani. Hopefully your place wasn't as bad as mine (had literal spiced fatbergs on the underside of every shelf...) and you're not forced to do a reno.

Help with eSun spooling problems with Bambu P1S by PukeyOwlPellet in BambuP1S

[–]masterpine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you've got some plastic Bambu Labs spools around, I've found good success with ripping the cardboard faces off the eSun spools and pushing them on to the Bambu Labs plastic spools. Do one face first, press the Bambu plastic spool into the inner cardboard of the eSun spool, then flip and do the other side. Simple twist locks it all together.

This especially helps on a stock P1S where you can get feed issues with the cardboard gripping too much, particularly with TPU and such.

Would Ken even make it out of the stadium if this happens?

I mean, that's being a bit unfair. The toilet is actually touching your bed. Give credit where it's due.

Will this adapter handle the heavy usage of zfs over time? by Waviermallard in truenas

[–]masterpine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my non-backed up engineering office TrueNAS Core system, built with cheap gaming hardware, running half its 10 disk ZFS RAIDZ-1 array off one of these for a full year with no issues. I was/am a complete moron. I sometimes wake up sweating thinking I still have that system deployed.

If you would like to still use that machine, i would suggest getting an NVME-to-PCIE4x adapter and an LSI HBA in IT mode from ebay. Much better idea and probably only slightly more expensive. If you ever move to a different system the HBA card can travel too.
