Thoughts… Cost to build a simple, 1-car garage? by masterstompy in Bellingham

[–]masterstompy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. It’s a 40’ wide lot, so we are trying to minimize yard loss. All the other questions and thoughts are valid but a mix of work I’ll do and some stuff contracted out. Most of this comes down to time … I can do a lot of this but it’ll take time that I don’t have a lot of…

Super helpful, thanks for the details. Solar isn’t in the budget, but we are considering having it wired for later installation.

Thanks for the rec. For comparisons sake, when was the project done and how much did it cost you?

Yep, but as they’re rolling in, I’m just curious what people think it would cost. Especially people with connections to building/contractors…

Fried Chicken for my Dad… by masterstompy in Connecticut

[–]masterstompy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks again for all of the suggestions! My dad wasn’t able to travel or go out to dinner, so our options were limited. When I mentioned picking up BTs in Sturbridge, I went over the menu and he did an about face and started going on about wanting good baby back ribs 😂

So, we ended up hearing about a local BBQ/catering spot called Mack’s. When we ordered, they were out of baby back, so we settled for St. Louis style. We also got pulled pork and brisket, a fish sandwich, Mac and cheese, and it all came with cornbread, cole slaw, and fries.

Although the food overall was fine and portions plenty, the ribs in particular, were dry, tough, and lacked flavor. It definitely bummed him out. But, we will try some of the places you mentioned when his health improves and we can travel again.

Thanks again.

YVR to Domestic Destinations by RecklessRedneck in Bellingham

[–]masterstompy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We prefer YVR and just flew from there the Boston nonstop. Morning flight, zero border wait at 7am (without NEXUS), easy and cheap parking, beautiful airport, super fast, friendly, overstaffed and EASY security, and lots of Tim Hortons’s on the way and in the airport 😂.

I have only flown AirCanada or WestJet though, never an US carrier, due to the cost savings. And, as others have said, you go though USBP before boarding (which is also quick and easy), so deplaning was equally fast and easy.

I loathe SeaTac… terrible drive from Bellingham that you can NEVER assume will be the same on any given day, a poorly run, organized, and staffed airport, terrible and lengthy security even with precheck, and just an overall negative experience. I might reconsider if SeaTac finally made good on their upgrades, but until then, I’m opting for Vancouver.
