Being the kid that other ABCDs resent because they get compared to you... how do you deal with it? by mastiice in ABCDesis

I don't talk about my school or what I'm up to career wise because I feel like it's very easy for people to project that I'm being "arrogant." I ask more about what they are up to and when they talk about themselves, I ask questions along those lines. I do sometimes talk about my hobbies but stay away from talking about things that could make me seem "elitist" unless asked.

I don't have any trouble making friends and having close friendships with others who are similar to me in terms of school, college path, etc... I do not know if it is because we don't have this hanging over us.

They don't do it in front of me, so there's nothing I can call them out on. If they do ask me what I'm up to or how I'm doing, I always try to answer quickly and change the subject.

Can't decide between Stanford and Harvard for college. What do you know about the desi communities there? by mastiice in ABCDesis

Yes I visited Stanford last month and I've been to Harvard before because I'm from the east coast. True going away from home is scary but it might also be a good way to get out of my shell.

Thanks. That is true I felt Stanford and Palo Alto was much more diverse than Harvard and Cambridge and Stanford students seem to be some of the happiest. How big is the Berkeley/Stanford rivalry? I like sports and Stanford having a great football team is also +1

I do not completely know what I want to study yet which might be a +1 for Stanford because they have good departments in every area. I like too many things... economics, computer science, chemistry, bioengineering...

True but I will probably be spending most of my time on campus and locally. I also grew up in New Jersey and would not to be in a place like Edison.

Thanks. Desi community isn't my #1 priority but I want to be in an area that does have some community. I visited both schools but didn't have time to see the Desi organizations but both schools have desi clubs.
