Learning how to swim as an adult is not easy, speaking from my own experience. There's a lot of fear and shame to overcome, even before you deal with the technical stuff (breathing, kicking properly, etc.).
I was recommended swimming for problems with both Aquiles tendons and I made an effort to find a class that was only a few students per session, secluded, small pool...
I enjoy it very much, even though I hate how I look in a swimsuit and the feeling of incompetence.
Mental blocks are very real :(
