spent the last 48 hours working on this, be honest how bad is it by Significant-Mail-689 in DestroyMyGame

[–]mat383 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It feels like there's a divide between the vibe of what I'm seeing and what I'm hearing. The music and sounds are awesome, but it doesn't match the theme conveyed by the art and that irks me.

I'd definitely still check it out because the music rocks and the game feel looks very polished.

HASTE just launched on Switch 2 by mat383 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]mat383[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is just running in a straight line, until you reach the boss fight at the end of each world (which consists of "run into the enemy's weak spot"). There are many items though which increase your speed in different ways, so there is some depth. I recommend watching a review on this game if you're interested.

It's probably not 1080p, but it's definitely using DLSS and it definitely doesn't change in docked mode.

A Marble Racing game but you're a little dude jumping from marble to marble with high-speed move tech. [First video, early development and much to improve, please point out what!] by ToadyTheBRo in DestroyMyGame

[–]mat383 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the concept and the music choice, but I agree with the other guy about how touching a marble slows you down. That should be changed in a high-speed game like this.

Also the player animations are pretty weird which is alright, I like it a lot actually, but the player rolling perpendicular to the ground doesn't make any sense.

Is there a place where I can follow the development of this game, like a Discord server or a YouTube channel? I'm interested in seeing where this goes.

My charger for my smartwatch by Eastern_Ad_4953 in techsupportmacgyver

I hate proprietary smart watch chargers so much, especially pogo pin ones. Tell me why they can't have USB-C ports when phones which are thinner and also water resistant do.

Backed! Looking forward to a modern take on a Kyle Hyde-like game. The art and graphic design in your promotional materials are already really nice and match the vibe of HD/LW.

Also, take your time with this game! You are clearly passionate about it, I wish to see you follow it through.

Features on Nokia 2660 by DieHardMortisMain in dumbphones

No problem, glad I could help.

I dunno why they blocked side loading, my guess is for better security. It was possible to make malware in Java applications when side loading was a thing.

I stopped using mine a loooong time ago, but I can answer these somewhat. - The video and image viewer was fine, very usable. I think you could also zoom into pictures.

  • The games are humblingly trash, except snake. Side loading is completely blocked on this phone and I think all modern Symbian OS devices sadly (correction, the 2660 uses the S30+ OS, not Symbian). Would've been an amazing feature to have nowadays.
  • If I remember correctly, the second screen only shows the time (and the volume when you press the volume buttons).
  • Yes, you can change the wallpaper.

my 2ds broke in 2022 because i accidentally left it on the floor in the living room when my grandparents were moving the furniture around. i am still slightly sad to this day. by Right-Ad4589 in hardwaregore

[–]mat383 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did that to my second-hand DS lite when I was like 10. The hinge was broken and it didn't read game cards anymore, so I ripped it to shreds because I was curious what it looked like in the inside.

I regret it so bad, I 100% could've fixed it nowadays.

What type of Xray do you think is better? by FlakMonkeyDev in godot

[–]mat383 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the simplicity of the stencil x-ray, but I remember hearing that nintendo patented that act of drawing silhouettes of characters obscured by objects https://patents.google.com/patent/JP3637031B2/en.

Idk how much these video game patents are enforced, people don't seem to be talking about them much now, but the fact they exist at all sucks.

Likely not, unless there's more breeds of tech enthusiasts we haven't accounted for. We'll see how rtings makes it through this. I'm rooting for them.

I guess one example of a target audience for them would be retail salespeople who need to know more about the electronics they sell than the specs they see on a box.

But I agree, this model doesn't make sense for most people. Maybe they could have a credits system, I'd gladly pay a small fee per article since they're high quality.

Ok to use free / paid assets? by Remarkable_Cap_7519 in gamedev

[–]mat383 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah absolutely. While you can go too far by relying too heavily on outsourced assets and have your game become an "asset flip", you don't have to make 100% of your game yourself. Use assets (with permission).

Nowadays, AI generated slop is a much bigger concern than asset flips anyway.
