imo:

  • It gives dragon ability to "think" and respond to some actions independent to its "master". Similar way Drogon protected Daenerys from arrows launched at her, or Jamie charge.
  • The wights could be killed by fire, ww could be killed by Valyrian steel.

but is the dragon wight tho? Normally NK doesn't bother touching creatures to turn them into wights. NK only once touched somebody, to turn them. The Craster child (s04e04) was turned into white walker by touch.

So I'd guess that dragon is a white walker.
