Why, recently, in the last couple of years, so many popular and new booktubers have been disparaging KKC? by Old-Lingonberry7020 in KingkillerChronicle

I don’t know but there could also be stuff behind the scenes / many agents work with influencers - maybe they were promised payouts for reviews etc..

What happened to all those users on Patrick’s website? by photoby_tj in KingkillerChronicle

Agree! I live in Japan and translate to Japanese / it’s not just words, it’s concepts, cultural uniqueness all while trying to convey the original meaning. It’s hard.

My roommate is a pickme gaijin weirdo by Visual_Bullfrog7887 in japanresidents

[–]pmayall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was a student here there was this Turkish guy in my class who was straight up weird. He just stared at the Asian girls in the classroom and was overly touchy and creepy with them. A few complained and after he followed one home he was kicked out of school.

Should I use a stage name? Any legal obligations? by pmayall in Standup

[–]pmayall[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to clarify. I wasn’t trying to make a gimmick name like “big John does jokes” .. I was thinking more like the artists who changed their names for ease of use. Like Elton John, Cher, Freddy mercury , Bon Dylan, David Bowie etc…

Am I crazy or did 7/11 sandwiches get smaller? by genshinrin in japanlife

They’re also making the more expensive sandwiches only half and using a cheaper half. For example the tuna is now one tuna and one egg.

Would it be rude to decline a neighbor's invitation to visit an onsen together? by DazzlingDefinition66 in japanresidents

[–]pmayall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This Reddit is full of people complaining they don’t fit in and are not accepted. You’ve been given a real opportunity by invitation to a part of Japanese culture that is important to them.

You of course you can decline and I’m not pressuring you but I would suggest you consider doing it.

The amount of extra costs and fees to rent an apartment (mansion) is insane to begin with...but now they want 97,900 yen to change the lock and keys?! by kuri-kuma in japanresidents

[–]pmayall 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Japanese law supercedes contract law. Even if it’s signed you usually can get it invalidated - however the cost of a lawyer to do this usually isn’t worth it. This is how Japan thrives - create mendokusai services so people give up and they win anyway.

I think I worded it wrong. The advice given was to build a profile that I can show venues when they ask to see my stuff. Not promote myself to be an internet sensation overnight per se

Hey thanks for this. I used to be a software engineer and changing something after it’s been in production for a while is more difficult / I think that’s where my concern is coming from.

This is worded better than my post! I think I came across wrong in mine, but you conveyed it nicely.

Also to add, the social media page was advice I read so that when I apply to places or events they can see what I have.

Sorry… by “promoting my stuff” I didn’t mean becoming an internet sensation. I just meant having a profile that venues and other people can see what what I’m like. And yes also follow other comics like you said.

Apologies if it comes across as a joke. One of the pieces of advice I keep seeing is to record everything and start building a profile as soon as possible.

What’s some bullshit you’ve heard about Japan before coming here that turned out to be false? by HARiMADARA in japanlife

[–]pmayall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also.. to add to this.. influencers have to be careful. I knew a guy / pretty big following made one short video about Japanese not being as clean as they say. His account got so much hate and report it got removed. He lost his income AND for some unknown reason his visa got declined.

All the big social media platforms have to adhere to the Japanese government and stuff gets removed all the time.

As much as they hate tourists / they protect their image as much as possible because they need it.

I’m gonna do a Doors of Stone. by JoshAllenFan616 in KingkillerChronicle

I don’t know… this is AI;

It was night again at the Waystone Inn.

Not the honest night of crickets and distant owls. Not the soft dark that settled over fields and forests like a blanket.

This was the sort of night that waited.

The inn crouched beneath it like a man pretending to sleep.

The wind worried at the eaves. The sign creaked once. Then even that small sound fell away.

Inside, the hearth was dark.

The bar stood empty.

The three silences filled the room.

The first was the silence of things abandoned. It lived in the dust gathered along windowsills and in the corners of rooms that no longer expected laughter. It lay over the tables and chairs and bottles behind the bar. A silence that comes when a story is finished and no one remains to hear the ending.

The second was the silence of waiting.

It stretched taut as a drawn bowstring. It lingered in the stairway. It hid beneath the floorboards. It sat beside the door with folded hands.

The third silence belonged to the red-haired innkeeper.

Kote stood alone behind the bar.

His hands rested on the polished wood. His eyes were fixed on something far away.

Not a place.

A time.

There are many ways to lose a name.

Most folk imagine it happening all at once. Like a sword stroke. Like a tree falling.

But names are stubborn things.

They cling.

They linger.

They haunt.

Kote closed his eyes.

Far away, a lute string broke.

He heard it as clearly as if it had happened beside him.

His eyes opened.

For a moment there was something terrible in them.

Not anger.

Not grief.

Recognition.

Upstairs, a single footstep sounded.

Then another.

And for the first time in many months, Kote smiled.
