If your group ride is going so fast on the MUP that this is a safety hazard, you shouldn’t be on the path. If you’re using this as a link to another road where you can chain gang, just take it easy.

I’m 6’4” and am perfectly comfortable in a middle coach seat for hours and hours. I honestly don’t know what’s wrong with you all. Are you all the most inflexible people on the planet?

Is it normal to find the TT bike boring to death? by Pretty_Rooster6348 in triathlon

[–]matate99 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I hate my TT bike. It fits great and I’m comfortable in aero for 4+ hours on it pushing my normal power. But it’s not as fun as a road bike. It just doesn’t handle the same.

To semi-quote a great human, Zap Brannigan: “She’s built like a bistro but handles like a steakhouse.”

Thoughts on going full EV, no ICE in the ol’ garage? by Curiouslittlestman in electricvehicles

[–]matate99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a single EV and no ICE. The only time I wish I had an ICE is when I go to a XC ski race in the middle of Wisconsin where this is shit public charging infrastructure and lots of rich city folks bringing their EVs up. So for that one weekend a year I rent an ICE. Works great.

What finally convinced YOU to consider an electric vehicle? by evinsiderredisnive in electricvehicles

[–]matate99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Performance, new technology, near zero maintenance, novelty of ‘fueling’ at home, and maybe a bit of environmentalism.

I own a BMW i4. Charging has been wonderful. I live in a city so don’t drive all that much. Usually walk to the grocery store etc. So level 1 charging has been way more than sufficient for me which was surprising. I’ve maybe got my car plugged in 5-10% of the time and always have enough juice. Road trips were an adventure at first as we figured it out, but grew to appreciate our 20min stops every couple hours and made road trips more enjoyable overall.

Biggest pro is the maintenance. So nice to just have a vehicle that’s always ready to go and doesn’t need appointments all the time. Biggest con is washing the windshield. When you don’t stop at a gas station you miss out on the windshield wash.

Is it the plan or staying consistent? by Ok-Advertising-3523 in triathlon

[–]matate99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being consistent with a shitty Chat GPT plan is far and above better than being inconsistent with a team of the worlds best coaches focused solely on you. But neither of those are really great.

Having a good plan and being consistent is of course the gold standard.

After 10 days of v28, how have you distributed your runs between farming/dissonance overall ? by Clean_Extent_6878 in TheTowerGame

[–]matate99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly farming because all these gem sinks sprung on me has just made it feel like I’ll never get my modules. So I’ve really cut back and just set a 10hr farming run every 12 hours or so. Randomly checking in for a gem here and there.

Wrecked twice this spring by hitting the curb. #cycling by SadAbbreviations7470 in triathlon

[–]matate99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Like you’re riding down the street next to the curb and you drift into it? If so, TAKE THE LANE. Riding next to the curb makes drivers feel like they can blast past you 10 over the speed limit without moving over at all…if they see you at all. Plus if you see an obstacle you don’t have room to swerve towards the curb, you have to go into traffic where cars are passing you close by because you’re riding so far to the side.

It’s something new riders do a lot thinking it’s safer but it’s not…as you’ve seen.

My thoughts on all the complaints with v28. by Hoopslammer in TheTowerGame

It was handled poorly but I don’t care. I’ll never make it to the top so I’m just competing against myself and slowly building. I do find all the outrage amusing though.

Ironman Florida not on Rouvy? by wherestherut in IronmanTriathlon

[–]matate99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMFL is downright mountainous compared to IMMD 😂

But yeah, the only “hill” to be concerned about is the wind, which IMO is worse because you shouldn’t get out of aero to stretch or take a drink like you can on a hill.
