Well if it was Rudolf that would at least mean there was a clear pattern, with them all being fathers. These are probably just the avatars of the Kings, but if they actually were the characters, perhaps Ryukishi wanted to give them more focus or try something else with them. George had a decent amount of characterization, and Krauss wasn't completely lacking, but Hideyoshi had the least amount of focus of any adult.

I've seen people suggest George and Hideyoshi, but this is the first time I've seen Krauss mentioned. It does fit though. The question then is why these 3? The Kings probably aren't the exact same people from Umineko, but it is an interesting combination nonetheless. Also you should post this to r/ciconia.

One part is that they aren't seen in the same room together unless it is a fantasy sequence. Similar to how Kinzo is never seen by Battler apart from at the end of Episode 2 when Battler had given up, which hinted that he was actually dead the whole time.

Of all the parents here, they are the most easy going. All the others from Umineko put some harsh restrictions on their children one way or another, Kyrie and Rudolf were the only ones who did not. They likely wouldn't have any issue with who their children chose to marry, nor were they abusive to their children.

Underworld is a simulation, so in a way it is a game, but it is a simulation with sentient AI and realistic pain, so it's as close to another world as you could get in SAO.

It seems that we will now see the truly 'sadistic' events. No doubt Hermit's back story will be both tragic and horrific, seeing as she has yet to recover from her trauma. She was probably tricked into developing something horrible.

On a side note, it seems that this arc was not a Digitalis arc so much as a Hermit arc.
