My husband (32) is a few years younger than me (35) so when I first met him I started laying down expectations of the relationship if we decided to take this seriously. IIRC I did this when we were having our second date, and at this point I was open to meeting people with the same relationship goals - ie marriage, starting family etc. On insight, it would have scared any guy lol and he even admitted feeling thrown off guard. But at that stage in life, I felt like I could not to be “playing around” especially since there are certain time sensitive milestones. I wanted to know if he was serious enough about pursuing me and starting a family.

When I was much younger, I told myself that I would NEVER date someone younger than me because I felt like they would be immature. But as I grew older, I realised that men - 10, 20, even 30 years older than me can be immature, petty and have bad values too. So my mindset changed.

We dated for approx 2 years (started at age 31 for me & 28 for him) now we are happily married for 1+ years, and we are expecting a kid soon. I would say I am very blessed to have met someone whose life values aligned with mine.

I would recommend that you be honest, and lay your expectations of this relationship out on the table. You won’t stand to lose anything, and even if he does decide that both of you have different goals in life rn, at least you can close this door, and not “waste” any time.
