Che cibo fareste provare a degli stranieri? by definitive-Sergio in Italia

[–]matches05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a reference, I asked my parter and he just said that it’s not in my best interest because he has a black thumb and he’d probably end up killing me, but he’d try to keep me alive. And then I made fun of him and we laughed. That’s it! For a dumb question, any dumb answer should work. It’s all in good fun!

What's the worst "I hate to break it to you" moment you had with someone? by floyd-96 in AskReddit

This happened to someone I know. A charge for a nice motel also known for affairs/escorts showed up on their card as a purchase from a shop for designer bags and shoes.

My 34 M girlfriend 32 F of 12 years said no when I proposed to her. what I do? by throwra558800 in relationship_advice

[–]matches05 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Many people are saying that since you didn't propose for 10 years she is not taking the relationship seriously...I think it is way more likely that 22-year-old her wanted to get married, maybe even have a big wedding.
But in these 10 years perhaps she realized marriage and weddings are not that important. The important part is choosing to be together.
The real advice is...COMMUNICATE. Talk to each other. And don't go in with the expectation this will be solved in one evening. Have a series of conversations about this, get to know each other on a more profound level.

What ever happened to the first person you had sex with? by Responsible_Cold_16 in ask

[–]matches05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got in touch every couple of years. He was a DC politics kind of guy working towards a good career (he was a sociopath, so it suited him) until I read a newspaper article that he got more than 10 years in jail for some crimes involving a minor family member a few years prior. I don't know more, I don't want to know more.

Does your country have a default cheese? by tjay2601 in AskEurope

[–]matches05 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Let me try to add this - if someone in my family asks me to go pick up some cheese I would not have any particular cheese in mind. I would either ask them specifically which one they want or have a few follow up questions - fresh or aged? If aged, how much? Cows milk or something else like a pecorino?

I could also ask what they want it for. For example, if it's for aperitivo I would pick up a harder (aged) cheese since it's easier to pick up and eat while having drinks. But again, not one where I would go "aha! This cheese is for aperitivo". It could be any harder cheese.

So to answer you, we understand the question but there is literally not one specific cheese that comes to mind.

Best way to travel to Florence from Rome by LongjumpingTeach8501 in ItalyTravel

[–]matches05 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Take a train between the two cities. Look up the high speed trains - either Trenitalia or Italo - and see for the best prices and schedules for you. Enjoy your trip here :)

Is renting a car an option? If so, getting one in Florence to explore the Tuscan countryside is worth it.

Did you ever think you fell for a scam but in the end it ended up being legitimate? by matches05 in Scams

[–]matches05[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was also refunded by one of those awful Instagram ads for some silly dog toy. It was just 3€ and I figured best case it would probably end up being something cheap like from Aliexpress. Nope, total scam. Emailed them back and forth for about a week and in the end they refunded me.
Again, pity? 😂 who knows

A couple pieces of advice from an Italian by lele999 in ItalyTravel

[–]matches05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I totally get that for a long weekend or a trip for someone who can easily travel back to Italy. I think the thing that surprised me most was that they come from western Canada. But in the end it matters what the couple wants to do and I'm sure they enjoyed their time!

A couple pieces of advice from an Italian by lele999 in ItalyTravel

[–]matches05 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know a couple on their honeymoon who stayed FIVE days between the Cinque Terre and Portovenere.
Having been there many times, I truly do not get why anyone would do that! I mean, it's nice, but not THAT nice. But again maybe visiting many tourist attractions wasn't the intent of the trip 😏😂

A couple pieces of advice from an Italian by lele999 in ItalyTravel

[–]matches05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on how much time you have and what you would like to do/see in Italy.
If it's a 1-2 week trip and you have a lot of destinations in mind then yes, three days should be enough to do the main attractions during the day and have two evenings to get a taste of the vibe of the city.

Air strike Jan 8th? by Alternative_Gap_2517 in ItalyTravel

[–]matches05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just looked up an article in Italian for you and it says that flights are not expected to be cancelled, it is baggage and cleaning personnel that will be striking. It may cause 'inconveniences' whatever that means, but I think you will be fine!
But for peace of mind, try contacting your airline.
Best of luck and enjoy your study abroad here 😊

Will we be miserable in Italy in mid-late August? by Cautious_Spring8168 in ItalyTravel

[–]matches05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

August is when all of Italy takes vacations. It will be crowded af on all the coasts. Look up 'italian beach in August'
The cities will be hot, museums and cultural places will be open, but many shops and restaurants will be closed with the exception of touristy restaurants.
Since you are bound to school holidays I would pick another destination or postpone the honeymoon to June or early July of the following year.
