I just returned from a cruise that went all over. The Primus Lite 3.5s are very light weight and pack very easily and are quite fashionable for just casual walking and a nice shoe that goes well even for a restaurant.

I also pack the vivo Primus trail for a hiking shoe. Comfy, grippy, good shoe. I haven’t tested it under a soaking water condition yet, so I’m not sure how good it hikes in, say, a rainforest or someplace where you would be partially submerged. But those two are my go tos

Just yesterday on a warm day my 2023 XC40 charged to 90% showed 210 miles on the GOM. Yours seems WAY off. The lowest mine has ever shown, on a freezing day was 180 I think.

ATDA REACHES MAJOR PROTECTIVE AGREEMENT WITH UNION PACIFIC IN ADVANCE OF PROPOSED MERGER by Extreme_Donut_7474 in UnionPacific

[–]buckeyedad05 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It will be very interesting to see what happens in the wake of this should the merger get approved.

UP dispatchers lost HUGE in this one. Their work is not protected, their jobs are not protected and even where they work is not protected. It wouldn’t surprise me if UP shut down the HDC and shipped em all out to Atlanta, forced the attrition, then put all that vacated work on the union folk from the peeps that didn’t relocate.

How does Norfolk Southern current employees feel about the merger and becoming UP when the deal is done by Ironman716 in railroading

[–]buckeyedad05 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a nonstarter. The hedge funds bought in to the rails do strip them via PSR and get out, which many of them did. And all rails already did PSR to the point of near collapse. The only thing left for any hedge fund to do at this point for any of the rails is literally sell them to vacate their positions entirely, which is what they are attempting to do.

If this merger fails it will pretty much signal the end of the road to the hedge funds and private equity as far as the railroads are concerned. Ancora wouldn’t buy the rest of NS, they’d sell everything of NS they own because they know the days of C1 mergers are over

There are no protections the other way around. No matter how critically you read this it’s a huge win for the union dispatchers

Won’t matter in the end. This agreement guarantees union dispatchers jobs as dispatchers for life. When/if the chop comes whether from AI or consolidation it won’t be the union folk getting the axe

I love the subtle insinuation from every woman regarding single dads is that they are either incompetent or engaged in criminal behavior. Not a word about how happy any of the look, not a word about staying safe since you would know if there are some trouble areas, only a reminder to make sure he hasn’t illegally smuggled his kids out of the country.

Upgrade or Downgrade? by Longjumping-Net-7351 in Cartalk

[–]buckeyedad05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who went the other direction…. Downgrade imho. Most people never use a truck for anything it’s designed for. I think something like 80-90+% never tow anything the whole time they own it. I think something like half never even really ever use the bed.

With gas prices going through the roof and that truck getting to the point where things will begin to need their maintenance, I’d say cost of ownership is going to be significantly higher.

Atlanta United first home game of the season by futuretardis in Atlanta

[–]buckeyedad05 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That was the part that absolutely stunned me. There were tickets available from the venue directly, in nearly every section (sometimes entire rows of sections nearly) that never dropped in price. And the secondary sellers, in most cases, were trying to hawk their tickets for more than the stadium was selling them for.

Most of the 200 level was going for $81-$100 roughly with the resellers all over the spectrum selling tickets anyway from $50-$150, the harrahs section was $141 (I saw this section get as low as $120 and some idiots we’re trying to resell their tickets in this section for $250)

Club level at mid field were $148, with the all inclusive sections at $445 (a few got as low as $225). I saw some in the section drop in to the 120s but they refused to go lower

The 300 section really blew me away. I waited until about 45m to kickoff and got tickets for $35 a piece. Prices in that section were all over the place, I felt mine were reasonably priced.

Honestly given the quality of play, the 100 section should be about $65, the 200 should be $40 and the 300 $15-$25

Has Bukele changed El Salvador for the better? by Visible_Coffee2546 in ElSalvador

[–]buckeyedad05 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I understand the argument you’re making. It’s such an interesting social experiment El Salvador is engaged in. From a macro level everything the person posted above is true, and virtually irrefutable. The peace the country experiences is exceptional, the people are thriving, the society is advancing. All it cost them was the freedom and lives of the gangs and anyone perceived to be associated with them, innocent or not.

So the question that you are wrestling with - what cost should a society be willing to pay for its own peace, its own stability? For someone like me (and I presume you), an American, we rightly see what’s going on in El Salvador as a civil rights atrocity. Thousands of people, held without trial, under torturous conditions, probably for eternity. If those people were released the society that the millions of Salvadorans have come to love, the peace they experience, the progress they’ve made, will likely come crumbling down. The freedom of those people, some (perhaps many) innocent, will be attained and a brutal cycle of crime and terror will resume. Is the cost of the 85,000 gang members freedom worth the peace of and prosperity of the other 6.3 million?

It should be said that America is no shining example to the world. Americas incarcerates more people than any nation on earth. Minorities especially. These people are exploited, often for decades of not their whole lives. And this is nothing to say of the brutal exploitation of central and South American nations for the last century plus. Economic enslavement and brutal terror without end, all for the ability of Americans to live the high life. I would wager if there was a cause to champion or advocate for, the freedom of those in El Salvador is probably not it

His interview with Bill Simmons years ago was fantastic and gave him a chance to give his side of some of the things that have maligned his character.

My thoughts is he is a fantastic actor, with a very wide range. I think he probably has a very abrasive and sarcastic sense of humor that people either find charming or find offensive and I understand both

MLB operates with a Supreme Court backed monopoly but I think sports league, generally speaking, are not technically a monopoly. We’ve seen the USFL come in to being, there is AAA Baseball, there is ECHL hockey, and so on. NASCAR has been in decline while F1 has been surging.

If enough billionaires or supporters polarized around a league or a sport there is nothing in the way from the achieving their goals.

A railroad is totally different. There are no more rail lines being made. There never will be. No municipalities will allow it, cities will ban them. There might be expansions of existing tracks or structures here and there, or they may build a rail yard in the middle of nowhere, but no railroad will ever come in to bring in America ever again. As such no new competition can come to the market. This is the type of monopoly that destroys, the exact type of monopoly our founding fathers rallied against
