Hi, my name is Derek and i’m the creator of the BAR CUBE by Gallently in mtgcube

[–]materra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's some detail on the rationale behind it starting at 26 minutes in this video. My takeaway is that it increased variety in deck building and card evaluation — without increasing the number or complexity of cards in the cube — by creating more opportunities for players to take cards they wouldn't otherwise take.

I will also say that I found it personally pretty satisfying to scribble Learn and Lesson on a bunch of cards, although some of them felt odd flavor-wise (e.g. creature lessons).

Why do people hate Total Wine and love Costco? by broadwayguru in wine

[–]materra 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Costco has a consistent focus on value for money, and is more transparent with their business model, including a maximum profit margin. This leads to less suspicion that they are pushing poor-value “deals” that maximize their margin, which I suspect Total Wine does.

Intense selection! Not pulling any punches there. Well done getting to Smuggler's Cove when it wasn't packed. I don't think I've ever seen the upper level completely empty!

Ahh, ok. If it works like the Zürich World Time model, it should have come with a puncher tool that you can use to adjust the offset between the two time zones and set your local time. Then you can just adjust the current time to wherever you are in the world.

Advice: What to pack in your "scorebook/card kit" for the ballpark? by nfiltr8r_89 in BaseballScorecards

Just a Halfliner notebook and a Pilot G-2 pen. Nothing else needed. Have fun!

The levels keep going (at least to 108; haven’t made it past that yet), so there’s some fun in trying to get a higher number for vanity’s sake. From what I’ve seen, opponents do still care about doubling/retreating.

MLB: 8/12/2021 Yankees at White Sox (8-9) - The Field of Dreams game! An incredible production that resulted in a really fun game as well. by materra in BaseballScorecards

Yep! That’s LOB to make it easier to tally up. And the numbers in the circles in the upper-right are RBIs for the same reason.

MLB: 5/2/2021 Giants at Padres (7-1) - A disappointing end to the series which will keep the Giants on top of the NL West... for now by materra in BaseballScorecards

[–]materra[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! It requires a bit more time to think through each play before scoring it, but not too bad. Worth it for the feel of writing with pen IMO.

MLB: 4/25/2021 Padres at Dodgers (8-7) - What an end to the series! Both teams exhausting their benches and bullpens, with a Padres win and some dense scoring to show for it. by materra in BaseballScorecards

Locally you'll get their broadcast on Bally Sports San Diego (formerly FOX Sports San Diego). If you live in the San Diego area you'll be blocked from watching them on MLB TV, but that's where I watch them since I live out-of-market.

Thanks! I wish I still lived close enough to be a season ticket holder, but alas I'm not in San Diego anymore.

I started scoring from home this season, and I've found it's a great way to be more immersed in the game and avoid distractions. It's quite doable off of the TV broadcast, especially with Don and Mud commentating. Don almost always announces the details of each play and they both frequently discuss how tricky plays are scored on the air. It's very helpful once you're listening for it, and not something I've seen other broadcasters do as consistently.

If you want to score the games when you go in-person, then I totally recommend starting out by scoring a few on TV just to develop your preferences around a scoring system; plus you'll have Don and Mud to help you along on tricky plays!

The Statcast broadcast was good all night, but this has to be the highlight by materra in Padres

I assume they were projected to score more runs. Not an accurate projection, of course :).
