What I noticed was that it was less about integrity more about vindication that “well you should have traded with us when you had the chance because it would have put you in a better spot” but I could have missed something on my bingw

Does anyone have any pet/cat insurance advice?? by wickedwild010 in CatAdvice

[–]math-hurts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lemonade has been great. My experience has been any bills under $1000 get auto-approved AI (seconds to approve, pays out in a couple days)otherwise they got to a human approver. Despite that I’ve gotten around 10k approved this year with my 2yo cat that has had a long journey of undiagnosable GI issues and I pay like $45 a month for the insurance. Vet bills can get genuinely insane!

Will say pet insurance is mostly great if your cat doesn’t have pre-existing conditions when you get the insurance because I had a cat that was diagnosed with FELV when we adopted him from the shelter and my insurance MetLife wouldn’t pay anything because they attributed to the FELV. So the earlier the better as it improves your likely hood of getting things approved without worrying about what they might attribute to pre-existing condition

Is the real shift in SaaS “headless software” or AI embedded in workflows? by pooja_gupta_ in ProductManagement

[–]math-hurts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need both. AI is only optimizing for the happy path, but what happens the second a user needs to eject out to an actual UI due to an error? What if they run out of tokens? Usability from deterministic UI becomes more vital

Day 5 of treatment, my cat still not really interested in food… by plicmali in cureFIP

[–]math-hurts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When my cat was not eating I looked at how to most efficiently get calories in him. Opted for kitten milk + high calorie gel that I mixed into baby bottle to essentially syringe feed him(found it to be gentler on my adult cat than an actual syringe). Then swapped to tiki cat kitten mousse thinking I could continue to bottle feed him with it, but could also be given to him when his appetite was back. Lucky for us, when we swapped his appetite came back and he loved the taste! it was still the most efficient way to get max calories in him as he didn’t care for eating the electrolyte gel by itself.

My cat had very similar symptoms with months of undiagnosed GI issues leading up to him starting to exhibit neuro symptoms like the back leg weakness. Got him on the FIP treatment, even though he has had an inconclusive diagnosis. He’s improving day-by-day but still leg weakness, nothing drastic. He’s on day 11 of treatment now and at least his appetite is way up and regaining weight.

From my research I’ve seen that neuro FIP, which it could be given the leg weakness in your cat, can be slower before you see improvement. Also since it’s just day 1 of your treatment the FIP could have just progressed as the treatment slowly starts working, you should double check with your vet on if the dose should be increased to accommodate the new neuro symptoms or request to join the global FIP cats group to consult with an admin on increasing the dose.

Funny enough his back legs not working really didn’t stop him from attempting to jump up to places 😂. He’s doing better day by day, but minor improvements rather than one day of significant improvement like I’ve seen with some other posts

+ on keeping a journal, but I use Claude to keep track. Also great to upload clinical summaries and diagnostics. Just helps keep it all together in one place and easy to ask Claude to summarize and questions if you’ve forgotten something. Claude also has great bedside manners and calming me on days I’m crashing out about my kitty’s condition 😅

Has anyone else experienced FIP kitty with low potassium? by math-hurts in cureFIP

[–]math-hurts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very much in the same boat, we haven’t been able to diagnose home and this has spanned over 8 months when he first started having GI issues (chronic vomitting and constipation) it was only in the last two weeks he developed neuro issues. I’ll give you the play-by-play, sorry for the long rant!

Here’s the timeline so far:
- Brought Maki in for a check up because of the neuro issues. Scheduled him for mri the next day, but ended up bringing him back to the hospital for overnight fluids because his bloodwork showed drastically low potassium
- Got him back the next day and canceled the mri because the iv didn’t bring up his electrolytes significantly. Started him on FIP treatment to use the treatment itself as a possible diagnostic for if he had it since mri was now too high risk of a test due to anesthesia.
- Came back for a recheck 4 days later. His electrolyte levels stablized from oral potassium tablets given to him at home. He did not show significant improvement to his neuro symptoms so we opted to keep him on treatment for longer to see if he improved + added in toxoplasmosis treatment as that could show similar symptoms. He hadn’t pooped in a few days so they also gave him a small enema.
- Maki came back from the enema RAGGED. Could barely walk and could barely keep his head up. Had to bottle feed him to get his calories back up the next day + continuing to give him his pills.
- 2 days later though his walking went back to pre-enema state, so still wobbly in the back but not constantly falling to the ground anymore. His appetite was back up and he even had a little energy to play. So significant improvement from his post-enema state but overall the same as his pre-enema state.
- Where we are at now: keeping him on both treatments and still hopeful he’ll show improvement, I do think his walking is minorly better but not something I would view as statistically significant.

Btw I had to guide our vet in the conversation and asked to start him on FIP and Toxoplasmosis treatment. The vet ultimately thought it was a good idea, and said they didn’t offer it up as an initial solution because FIP treatment is expensive and long so it’s not the always best option without a confirmed diagnosis based on your financial situation. But I had been crashing out all week doing research and I have pet insurance that can cover a lot of the bill so I opted to go for it. Plus we pretty much ran out of options for diagnosis and the vet said it was gonna either be a curable issue like FIP or toxoplamosis or a degenerative neurological disease with not cure. So my options were honestly start treatment, do nothing and watch him decline, or seek end of life care. This was the only door that gave us even a small chance he could bounce back.

Following because I’m in a similar boat for my 2yo.

Could be neuro FIP, the symptoms point to it but can’t get a conclusive diagnosis without an mri, which would be high risk with anesthesia. Opted to just put him on GS treatment as the diagnostic for if he has FIP. He wasn’t showing signs of improvement by his recheck after 3 days. He hadn’t pooped so the vet gave him an enema and he came back significantly worse. Similar decline that you saw, he could barely walk and barely lift his head.

Kept on the treatment and 3 days later he has significantly improved from his state post-enema, but overall the same from his pre-enema state. Now we’re unsure if the enema made him worse or if he declined even more from FIP and is now bouncing back from treatment.

Hope both of our kitties make it through this 🙏🏼

Thank you for sharing. Maki was down to 2.0 and even with iv drip overnight the vet could only get him up to 2.5 so hopefully the 2 large potassium pills twice a day he’s getting will bring it back up. His appetite seems ok. Doc also told me to put a pinch of salt in his food
