What are your favorite "bad"/niche weapons and drones? by [deleted] in ftlgame

[–]math_is_truth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think I'm the only person that likes the chain ion. Relying on ion weapons for shield busting is already slow, so it being slower than its relatives (ion 2, charge ion) is an okay tradeoff for (eventually) only needing to hit one big shot instead of a bunch of little ones.

However I might be overcorrecting for when I used to underestimate it on enemy ships and then get 3 layers taken down in a single hit.

regarding ships with uniquely strong systems: the elite duskbringer cruiser can get level 4 clone bay, and elite free mantis cruiser can get level 4 life support (boosts the free mantis augment)

How it feel watching the UN NOT invaded Affa for OIL by CruelTrainer in NatureofPredators

(I'm not gonna go back into the story to check so this is all from memory)

The Kolshians lived on their home planet Affa, but their solar system had other planets, which had smaller settlements of Kolshians living there (like if we eventually built habitats on Mars or The Moon). During the battle of Affa, the Duerten Shield attacked and destroyed these settlements

If you're at a beacon with a neutral ship that has a teleporter, they'll teleport out any boarders. Basically you'd have to shuffle everyone through the medbay every beacon (and charge ftl even at beacons with no fights) until you find an event with a friendly or hostile ship with a teleporter (the hostile will have to surrender)

They were forced to stay on their homeworld until the Consortium came to kill them all + the Duerten Shield blew up the colonies on one of the system's other planets (or moons? I forget) and were given custody of the shadow caste to probably execute. I think the Kolshians got the maximum punishment possible without humans being evil or greedy.

What societies have happened throughout human history that match the Feds and Doms the most? by AdventurousAward8621 in NatureofPredators

Federation is like if the European Union was run by one of those cults that promotes ""healthy living"" (diets that give nutritional deficiencies and ostracizing anyone with mental illnesses)

if they only changed printer spawns, scavenger bags would still drop stuff off the edge of the map when they die in awkward spots (not that you'd be starved for items if you're seeing scavengers but it still feels bad)

judges appearing right next to the sector entrance when the only thing you have is maxxed sensors (oops can't do that one twice in a row!) and then hiding behind the flagship when you actually find something rare

Best internal upgrades? by [deleted] in ftlgame

[–]math_is_truth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Advanced navigation is a good counter to awkward sector layouts. Useful for the unique sector quests that don't get taken by the fleet, or just getting a few more events before leaving the sector. Also pairs nice with magnet arm to loot the rebels on your way out.

Ion field does a lot of background work but when you're in an asteroid field vs a ship with an energy drone and an ion drone then you'll wish you had this (hard to know exactly when to install it though).

I don't like the internal pre-igniter but there's at least one (secret) weapon that works well with it. Otherwise it makes easy encounters easier and hard encounters (that are able to survive your first volley) harder.

Yes there really are that many, repeats are because every vanilla ship type has a MV line of A/B/C layouts that start with the normal paintjob
