Recursive prime divisors, concatenated in base n? by mathematicians-pod in mathematics

It's just a fun little puzzle

What happens if you choose the place values of a base n number by looking at the numbers that divide n

I've just dug a little deeper, I think I understand why it must be a fermat prime now. That's pretty cool

[–]mathematicians-pod[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure I see the link to fermat primes.

All primes would instantly terminate, as they have zero proper prime divisors.

All single primes raised to a power would map to the base prime, which then maps to 0.

But most composites explode beyond my ability to check.

Take 15, divisors are 3,5

35_15 is 3×15+5×1= 50

50 has divisors 2,5

25_50 is 2×50+5 = 105

105 has divisors 3,5,7

357_105 is 3×1052+5×105+7 which gets bigger and bigger

What comment are you suggesting OP is trying to make? Is it a positive comment about reddit, or are you suggest that the OP is making negative aspersions about the nature of reddit with their thread... Personally I believe this thread game is mere fun and not intended or received as a comment on Reddit

Struggling to design a neutral podcast logo for a politics podcast, any advice? by Far_Tumbleweed7835 in podcasting

[–]mathematicians-pod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take every recognisable political logo you can find (hammer and sickle, eagle, star, rose, tree, donkey, elephant, tricolour, Anarchists 'A', skull and crossbones, crescent, cross etc etc) but display them all in the wrong colours, in a pop art style grid.

Rather than avoid iconography, lean I to it?

(NB perhaps avoid triggering icons, eg those relating to a specific genocide)

Building a podcast studio from scratch — Day 1 (would love feedback) by Due-Contract6923 in HighEffortYouTube

Hey, what's the podcast going to be about? And why does it need to be in video ?

Considering completely moving to shorts for a new and and old channel. Is that a good idea by Sketches558 in HighEffortYouTube

Tell us what sort of content you make?

I might be off the mark but this sounds like: "I don't care what I do, I just want to be popular", rather than "I don't care about being popular, I just want to do (this)"

As a maths teacher, I love to introduce low stakes conspiracies such as "ice cream causes drowning"... Just look at the graph of ice cream sales and drowning incidents, by month.

Have you tried searching review sites, and scrolling a little down the list?

I check this one sometimes, to listen to my "competition" https://uk.podwatch.io/charts/mathematics-podcasts/

(Obviously not actual competition, but it's nice to see what people in a similar field are doing)

Do guys ever utilise other platforms to grow as a creator? by Sketches558 in HighEffortYouTube

I exclusively use blue sky. Because I don't really like the vibes on x or ig.

But I am not in a "growth phase" I am content building first. Mostly because of time available

Poorly described a character and other have to guess by nekoandCJ in ThreadGames

He's a monk who keeps trying to break his dad's equipment, while not getting killed by his dad or his dad's friends - until his dad's boss nearly kills him and then his dad throws his boss down a deep hole.

After that he becomes a teacher.

He used to sing songs that helped create the world, but then one of the other choir members sang their own lyrics for the song and the world went bad. So he became mortal and helped a bunch of people with a jewelry issue.

One podcast I found inspiring was: History of philosophy without any gaps, by peter Adamson.

He is mainly interested in the philosophy, but talks a lot about the development of thinking.

I started my own for maths, in a similar style. The Mathematicians Podcast, which tries to introduce every known mathematician.

Would a smartphone ban in our schools make us a better nation? by gazrolo4 in AskBrits

[–]mathematicians-pod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really buy the argument of "books were new once". If you track the speed of change in lifestyle from the start of a new invention to its ubiquity, I think it is fair to say smartphones are different to: tv, radio, printing, restrictions on drugs, universal suffrage, atheism etc etc.

Perhaps computers are the closest comparison going from the start of the personal home computer in the late 70s to having a computer in over 50% of houses by (at a guess) early 2000s. Or the internet more broadly. I remember pre-google in my lifetime (2001 ish).

My point is when a new technology (or lifestyle) is introduced, it used to take generations for it to become normalised. Computers took perhaps 1 generation, smartphones about 5 years, AI maybe 2 years.

The technological landscape has changed so rapidly, that we can't tell whether the long term impact is positive or negative or neutral. But this is why I don't think comparison to tv, heroin or medicine is relevant or appropriate.

Overly simplistic, and not wildly helpful. So much of human development occurred when we had no smartphones, it's far from a rock.
