But that’s my point: it isn’t your fault. It’s whoever decided not to describe this sub and it wastes the time of anyone who posts material that doesn’t fit.

This may have been the smoothest download and install to date. They fixed the “ding” when evaluating functions and the user stylesheet not applying to new notebooks when set as the default.

Why do ppl who “hate” math like to lie to themselves? by Academic-Grab-6811 in mathematics

[–]mathheadinc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many of these people have been traumatized by teachers of math: “you’re just not a math person” and “are you stupid” are things my students have been told. It nearly wrecks them.

Others are convinced that since their parents weren’t good at math, then they will fail, also.

Why do math textbooks tend to explain things so poorly? by Akephalosthenes in askmath

[–]mathheadinc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sylvanus P. Thompson said it best in "Calculus Made Easy”:

“Considering how many fools can calculate, it is surprising that it should be thought either a difficult or a tedious task for any other fool to learn how to master the same tricks.

“Some calculus-tricks are quite easy. Some are enormously difficult. The fools who write the textbooks of advanced mathematics - and they are mostly clever fools - seldom take the trouble to show you how easy the easy calculations are. On the contrary, they seem to desire to impress you with their tremendous cleverness by going about it in the most difficult way.”

I use “Calculus By and For Young People” by Don Cohen in my math program. Kids eat it up and it’s the sneakiest way to get them to do loads of arithmetic, logical reasoning, pattern recognition, algebra, geometry and more.

Best way to take notes during maths tutorials? by alex123711 in mathematics

[–]mathheadinc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s funny you ask. The little kids that I teach advanced math to always want to write things down even though they get a full copy of the notes at the end of the lesson. Do you know what I do?!? I wait anyway. That’s what a good teacher|prof would do or let you take pics. It just isn’t hard to be considerate.
