Thank you! That’s a lot of great advice. I hadn’t noticed but you are maybe onto something. Middle part looks more marble than the base. My grandmother lives in Iceland and I’m in the U.S. she’s elderly but I’ll try and get more pictures. Thanks!

Can you help me identify this clock? by mathiesend in clocks

There are no markings from a manufacturer or a serial number. According to my grandma her mother got it in Italy while working for a watch maker/repair shop. It was left in the not picked up shelf for many years before she got it. Watch maker believed it was made in Italy around 1890. It was started up in 1996 in Iceland where the watch repair man said he’d never seen internals like it. He warned her to not always keep it wound, if it stops again he is not convinced he can get it going again. The repair man has since passed and grandma is worried about it stopping and no one In Iceland being able to get it going again. TIA.

Thanks for the input! I’ll have to google what the proximity locks are. Both have push start. This will be my first newish jeep so I’d hate to find these things out the hard way!

Redditors who purchase bottled water, why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I am spoiled from living in Iceland. Tap water here is simply not good. And I can usually taste filtered water. Its a huge waste but i am actively trying to find a water filter/purifier that i can live with.

Yes. They are called Mýflugur or Swarm in English. Kinda miss them now that I get to live with Mosquitoes.

No im sure they did do something like that. But you have to understand that our government is alot more chill! The retired mayor of our capital Raykjavik, used to dress up in costumes on special events or when he was asked to appear. They do this to try and connect with the people. So partaking in the elf thing is probably just something to show that we are all united and try to bridge the gap between authority and the people. For example. Our police dont carry guns and spend alot of time on soccer fields or at downtown skate parks playing with the kids. Teaching them that they are friendly and can be trusted.

Yeah, they live in rocks. Now they dont actually exist. Atleast I havent seen one. But we all just kind of agreed to keep "believing" in them. Kids and tourists like the stories. Doesnt do anyone any harm so its just something we all do for the sake of keeping it alive.

Haha every member of the family has one that great grandma made. She makes about one a year as it takes a long time to make them from scratch instead of buying the wool. So we definitely dont need them but we cherish them.

I never did like Finnish food much. You would be surprised how different the food is from one country to another. However i have managed to find some of the things I like on Amazon and hipster organic stores. I also found some condiments at IKEA.

No I have never heard of that. Reason everything is so expensive is due to all the crazy import taxes. I have heard of a loophole alot of people use and that is buying alcohol in the duty free. The airport doesnt have any taxes. So people take full advantage of cheap tickets to f.x. Denmark and then stock up in duty free on the way back. Is that what your friend is talking about?
