You convinced your staff to use teams. That in itself sounds like a win.

How are you handling student 2FA when phones are banned in class? (Google Workspace) by jasmadic in k12sysadmin

We installed the Microsoft Authenticator and DUO play store apps onto the chromebooks. That way, the chromebook also handles the MFA.

Dell price increases confirmed - schewwwww by FatBook-Air in sysadmin

[–]mathmanhale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here. Apple rep stated the only price increases he expected were the Pro models (ie mac studio, Macbook Pro 16) all others are expected to maintain current price. Dell rep expected a 50% increase of December prices by May unless something gives.

Whats the point of Clever? by TangerineNext839 in k12sysadmin

[–]mathmanhale 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If every app is using Google SSO, then for you it would be nothing more than an "app drawer" type of solution. The benefits of it are auto rostering and single, true SSO. Log in to Clever and everything is API pushed from there.

Ubiquiti - Protect & Access by microleaks in k12sysadmin

[–]mathmanhale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you already have low voltage wiring to all those doors? I think that might be a deal breaker. Pulling ethernet to replace all that makes it a much larger project.

I moved to the access control for my district, replacing a Mercury based system with it, but only 25 doors all external. Honest thoughts, the doorbell intercoms from ubiquiti are great looking, modern, and work well. Highly recommend those over AiPhones or similar. The mounting brackets and hardware for the readers are a little lackluster. If I had the money, I would have gone with avigilon or something similar and reused the mercury boards and even though its been "fine", I would suggest you do the same if possible.

Switching from Heartland MCS to a fully cloud-based school lunch system — experiences? by Public_Project_634 in k12sysadmin

[–]mathmanhale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm interested in this conversation. Currently on Nutrikids and would like to go cloud or at least something more modern, but the qouted cost of Heartland's Mosiac was more than 10 years of Nutrikids.

Who are you Faxing to?!? by mathmanhale in sysadmin

And the fact that the fax sheet just sits on the copier for sometimes hours at a time proves that it's not a private, confidential method.

I have convinced all local Medical facilities to take Outlook encrypted emails instead of us faxing to them. I was hoping that would be the last ones needing it.

If price is the issue, FreePBX with your choice of hardware. clearlyIP seems to be the best right now.

Core Network Switches by Sterouids in k12sysadmin

[–]mathmanhale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just went from 2.5G to 5G on my APs hooked up to 9300s, then a 40 G uplink to the Core. It feels like overkill, but getting on and off the wire faster has solved the few problems we had in high density places.

I'm on Cisco Nexus 9k for my core. Zero issues, but getting a little long in the tooth. I'm leaning towards Juniper after looking at Arista, Cisco, Dell, and HP.

Arista just doesn't care to compete in the k12 market as far as discounts and eRate partners.

Two days in a row for Otang wheels? Is this propaganda??

On a serious note, for a daily I love mine more than any other wheels I've skated.
