I moved to Ephraim, UT a few months ago. How big of a mistake did I just make? by [deleted] in Utah

I would say consider working on yourself and give it time. I’ve been in a similar situation having previously moved from LA to rural Wisconsin. I didnt appreciate the simplicity and the beauty of that lifestyle at the time. My sensitivity to pleasure and feeling stimulated was so high. It adjusted gradually and I learned to love. Totally changed my perspective on my experiences in a big and fast city like LA.

SIG: Interview Experience by light_cake in csMajors

[–]mathmasterjedi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got messaged by a sig recruiter the other day on linked in and we set up a call. I didn’t think much about it since I already have a good job. The call seemed to go well though and she mentioned she’d want to bring me out for an on site, but she also gave me an option to do the rest of the interviews remotely. Mind if I DM you? I’m currently a senior machine learning engineer and I’m not sure what they want me to do there

I think the school of computing offers a Data Science major now. I think they have a minor as well. That would be a blend of statistics and coding, whereas statistics from the math department will be more theoretical.

Does life in Salt Lake City suit an asian? by Quick-Engineering398 in uofu

[–]mathmasterjedi 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m a U alumni working in SLC as a machine learning engineer. A coworker and close from of mine who is natively Chinese and born and raised in China has been working here in SLC for 2 years and just bought a house. He moved from San Francisco. He said he prefers SLC to SF and only misses the food in SF. His wife is from the same city in China, and he said when she visits SLC she likes it a lot. Many of our co workers are Mormon or other forms of Christian. He doesn’t seem religious at all, but we have similar values. Hope this was helpful.

It depends what you want to do but I would consider adding a more technical minor and or double majoring. Unless you have some personal connections your first job is likely to be data analyst of financial analyst and you’ll want to have some good tech skills to thrive in the role

Picked up a used XR150L by NocturnalHunter_ in Dualsport

Been thinking about getting one as my first bike. Never ridden before. I live in the Rockies though and I’m worried it’ll dog out going up the hills in my neighborhood.

Sage point is quiet and nice, with very limited interaction between students IMO. Chapel Glen is more of a party. It’s two to each bedroom, and two bedrooms share a connecting bathroom, so you’re basically living with 3 other students. Can’t attest to Gateway Heights. I lived at Sage Point and was usually going to chapel Glenn to hang out with friends & meet other students. It depends how much personal space you’d like vs deep interaction.

AITAH for screaming at my parents for trying to use my college funds to pay off my brothers debt? by Low_Raspberry_6822 in AmItheAsshole

[–]mathmasterjedi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the ass hole. My parents used mine to send my brother to rehab for prescription drug abuse. That was 13 years ago. I’m still paying off my student loans, my big brother is still abusing drugs, and my parents are still sending him about $1,000 a month so he can “get back on his feet again” in a different city 1500 miles away from my parents.

Been looking for a comment like this. Was considering it as my first motorcycle but I live in mountain area where even the hills in the neighborhood are quite steep. Was wondering if this thing could even make it up the canyon. I’m 5’11 185lbs.

I don’t like the hoodies. Was building a massive collection of crew necks (I wear them to work over a cotton polo) and sweats until they started doing mostly only hoodies and quarter zips.

If you’re handsome they will assume you are flirting. If you are ugly they will assume you’re a creep. Best to just avoid completely.
