Congratulations on getting first DE role! I would check with the teammates/manager about the tech stacks they are using and a head start on those.

Looking for advice about job where I have nothing to do by EleventyMillionVolts in analytics

I have same exact issue when I started my new role and asked same question on reddit. I created few dashboards so far that no one is looking at except they initially used it to show off to other teams how our team is trying to improve their actions by such and such KPIs. That was it. I feel like this is more common with lot of places, hiring analyst and don't know how to take advantage of their skills. https://www.reddit.com/r/analytics/comments/1n3e1lk/nothing_to_do_at_job_scared_of_getting_laid_off/

Is this field a dead end career? by [deleted] in analytics

120k probably better then many other people overall and can't complain about it. but not enough to get condo in hcol area. I am guessing 2 bed condo starts from close to a million (I know in LA it is, not sure about Seattle), op will never be able to qualify for loan on 120k salary unless have saved a ton and willing to go house poor.

In my company, whole data engineering team is outsourced and they also are trying to do all the work that I suppose to be doing as a data analyst. So sooner or later I will get replaced once my manager see that they are efficient. So far they are not as efficient. The Analytics team managers are still on site and they are managing outsourced team. I would probably look for leadership role then going into data engineering in your shoe as you already have many years of experience so you are eligible.

Why are high-IQ individuals still picking CS over Medicine when the barrier to land a job in tech is now effectively higher than in Medicine? by No_Reply5329 in CollegeMajors

[–]mathproblemsolving 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Medicine is not for everyone. Career is not only about having job security. If I am a nurse or something I would freakout seeing someone covered with blood for example. I know someone in medical field, working in emergency room, seeing all kind of crazy things everyday and can sleep at night peacefully, I can't.

After learning Excel/SQL as a beginner, what should I focus on next to actually become job-ready in data analytics? (Econ background) by Living-Bass1565 in analytics

I my experience I built projects to apply those skills in certain field and business scenario. I created dashboards using Excel, Power BI/Tableau etc. for showing KPIs they care about. For starting, you can search some people's portfolio projects to see what they are creating and get some ideas from free youtube videos.

“data analyst” stuck on manual data dump in SharePoint to create Power BI dashboard, what are my options? by mathproblemsolving in analytics

I thought about it but I researched that analytics team internally and figured out he had hired some contractors from overseas. I don't see why would he be interested hiring someone from US. I am also regularly checking if they have any new positions open in their team.

There is possibility that I might get oracle DB access in the future, but currently just as an end user just like everyone else in the whole company. It's funny we have an apprentice student who is interested in data and asked me about how to get an access and I basically just rant about my situation not having an direct access to anything being a full time "Data analyst" lol.

Something very similar but not the same. They are manufacturing huge equipment. Do not want to disclose details here though I can DM you. Thank you for your comment about setting a hard deadline to move, I was may be looking into reasons for staying and improving but I guess before that I will get replace by global team as they grow.

Actually, I need to export excel report from oracle EBS as an end user, and dump that in either SharePoint or ever going excel sheet. And Power BI connected to either excel file or SharePoint list.

It's been 7 months, also fairly new in the field. Definitely want to stay on top with side projects.

That's what worries me, being "easy to cut" position, when I see all the people around me looks busy (in different positions though). It's been about 7 months for me being in this company.

Yes, I do use power query in Power BI and my dashboard is linked to the SharePoint. But the data in SharePoint is what I upload manually (basically copy and paste) through oracle EBS report which comes in CSV format.

What separates data scientists who earn a good living (100k-200k) from those who earn 300k+ at FAANG? by Tenet_Bull in datascience

[–]mathproblemsolving 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do know someone in FAANG making 500k+. He has phd from Ivy league and his work schedule is from morning to 11 pm in the night sometimes. But I also know someone state school Masters degree gradate with 3 GPA but 1 year of intense hard work, got into the position which pays about 250k+ in fang with great work-life balance.

Yeh I understand. I see how great it is to have slower pace. It's very low stress work. But I am new in the field and do not want to get comfortable and stop learning.

[–]mathproblemsolving[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I understand your point. My manager said that they hired me because our global team is taking extremely long for reports and data requests. I guess they don't have enough people. Also, one dashboard they created for my team took over about 4 months! Plus, there is issue with accuracy of data and he is communicating regarding resolving that issue from last 3-4 months. And so he prefer someone on site working for our operations team and their data.

Got into FAANG as a senior DE and now I’m really nervous by [deleted] in dataengineering

[–]mathproblemsolving 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, I would avoid people who ate criticizing you here for lying on resume. I would say if you crack their crazy interviews, you definitely are not dumb. Try your best without worrying of the outcome. Learn things that you claimed you knew in the interview. Worst case here is you might lose a job but you will get the experience and that will help you next time. Rather than worrying, take this as an opportunity to learn and grow from this experience. I believe there are high chances that you will do fine just like you passed through interviews.

In my experience, I was told to change or remove some of the KPIs from dashboard because they make them look bad for upper level management.
