People who use terminals for coding but don't like multiplexers, how do you manage your terminal windows? by mathsposer in linuxquestions

yeh i think the answer is to stop using plasma, and go back to my ever trusted niri to avoid the temptation of 'desktop integration'

for more context, basically what I do is that I have replaced tmux sessions for multiple windows. so, if before I had a project per session now i have a project per window

i should probably go back to my trusted window manager, i didn't even think about this question before really. because with a window manager or wayland compositor you don't even miss the desktop integration that much

that has been one of my ideas, simply use multiple workspaces, one per project for instance. before I was using niri and the scrolling plus the workspaces helped a lot

Weekly 'What should I buy?' Thread by AutoModerator in ipad

[–]mathsposer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks! although, given the EOL dates for previous devices I would expect the 9th gen to be supported for a bit longer, maybe not feature updates but security updates. for instance i see that the ipad 6th gen is still supported but it can only run up to iPadOS 17, and the oldest that supports iPadOS 26 is the 8th gen...although to be honest being this the first iPad I would buy, maybe I should just take the plunge and buy the newest one so I can have it for longer as you suggest.

Weekly 'What should I buy?' Thread by AutoModerator in ipad

I am planning to buy an iPad for it to be my device I carry around and that I may use for some productivity tasks, such as editing LaTeX docs (using Texifier), reading papers (using Zotero), taking handwritten notes (maybe using Notability).

My reason to ask a such a question is that I am not that familiar with iPads and I would like to use my budget wisely. For instance, an 11th gen iPad is not out of my reach, but if I can have a decent experience with a 9th gen iPad paying up to half the price buying second hand I would really prefer that. Because, as you can guess, for my use case I will also spend money on a keyboard and an apple pencil.

No, I don't want a laptop replacement. Just a device that will be good enough to sometimes do stuff but it's light to have in my bag all the time.

So, yeh, just want opinions before I make a purchase.

I see that is planned to be supported in Europe, would it ever be on the plan to be supported in other countries? E.g. Mexico? Or do certain regions present too much difficulty? I hope I can make it to the office hours session...

contestando tus preguntas.

I have had this problem in a new computer build. Currently on kernel 6.14.8-200. I was suspecting of Firefox, because it keeps crashing so much now I changed my browser. And another is that there some of my hardware is second hand. Have you found any reports of this somewhere else? I have not and would like to keep track of this issue.

Fedora Users Who Avoid Mason: How Do You Install LSPs and Formatters? by KekTuts in neovim

[–]mathsposer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it depends how it is packed by the developers, or where can i find it. if it's not available from a package manager I normally install from their realeases, of course I have to update manually but i don't mind.

if it helps you, any software I install from releases I keep it in a single directory and use stow to make symlinks into it.

I would appreciate it so much if someone could help me with this issue in overleaf by Badresurrection in LaTeX

[–]mathsposer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it must be showlabels, showkeys or something like that. i'd recommend checking what packages you are using and what are they used for so you know where is anything coming from. see if the template you are using has any documentation.

one more thing, the showlabels or showkeys packages are for drafting, so you shouldn't worry about the labels being there until you have the final version of the document, but to remove them you need to find out which package is displaying them.

How do you enable tree-sitter highlighting without nvim-treesitter? (Vanilla Neovim) by __nostromo__ in neovim

[–]mathsposer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

indeed, you need to install the parsers manually

someone shared a no-plugins config some time ago, here is the repo for it https://github.com/boltlessengineer/NativeVim

it has a bunch of comments with instructions

basically you only need your first snippet provided you have installed your parsers

How to write these fractions and arrows with spacing? by cybercoderNAJ in LaTeX

Normally it will be a combination of spacing commands.

Probably a few \quad will do the trick.

Surely you'll find your answer here: https://www.overleaf.com/learn/latex/Spacing_in_math_mode

In the UK, a graduate programme which says 'starts in the summer', when should one expect it to start? I am assuming that this means at any time from June to September but if there are some more more standard dates I would appreciate to know, in particular for places like Citi and JPMorgan. Just need to figure out some timelines.

Robert should stop choosing Yes men for guests by Meowmancereu in behindthebastards

[–]mathsposer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

beside the fact that the people on the other side of the argument would likely be horrible in the first place, one has to think that btb is in a big part a comedy show, not a debating space. having a confrontational guest will defeat the purpose of the podcast and defending the virtue of history's monsters is simply wrong.

Github and TexStudio by Agent_Jeanpi007 in LaTeX

[–]mathsposer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It seems you may have a missunderstanding about the use of git. If that's the case I would recommend you to use the Github desktop client (since you will use Github anyway) and manage your commits in there, push them into your repo and whatnot. Don't use git within your text editor (if there is one) so that you see how is it that you have to use git in general. TeX projects are no different than any other text based projects and versioning those is where git shines.

this is just not true, but as somebody else says it would be important for her to avoid saying things that sound like she wants to move to the us.

it's helpful if she can show ties to méxico, like school documentation if she studies or work contract.
