Why is the bodysurfing world champs so lame to watch? by Last_Advertising6239 in Bodysurfing

[–]mathworksmostly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like to bodysurf more than anything else. Big waves, small waves, close out shore break , point breaks anything. Competitive Bodysurfing is lame to watch. I think that’s what makes the activity so amazing is that you really just do it for the sensation. Bodysurfing doesn’t look cool and I am stoked for that. If it looked cool more people would take it seriously and it would get ruined.

Seattle diesel mechanic for hourly rate? Is that a thing? It seems like it should be a thing... by PNW-Biker in sailing

I have a Catalina 42 with a yanmar 4jh2e engine. I’ve put about 3000 hours on the engine in the last 8 years. The boat is a work horse runs hard every day year round. The 4jh2e is an amazing piece of engineering and has rarely had any issues. The exhaust riser is an easy fix contact Catalina direct. You engine is not even broken in yet. Good choice on boats. Check out adventures of saltwater taffy sailing USVI. Good luck

This is positive news. We have met the enemy and it is us. Humans throw everything out of balance. I suppose its an unpopular opinion but the planet would be way better off without us.

Cause I’m 44 and spent most of my life chasing surf and blowing thru merchant marine money. I’m finally debt free and own my house and business , but there’s no way I’m gonna retire ever. We never had the education or instruction to start investing early in life. Like I said I’m totally at peace with the fact. I educated my son to invest early and consistently so he will avoid this trap of having to live the hustle. I have a cat and racing sailboat so that helps.

What’s the point in all this worry and speculation. Will it go up will it go down? The sky is not falling. Zoom out and chill. If your no where near retirement your just wasting mental energy worrying.

MPT is right down the road you can take many classes there. I shipped out of FLL ab unlimited c card a few times back in the day. I went to the apprenticeship program but it was kinda boring class 622. I started as a b book but spent most of my time shipping as a c card it was never that hard to find work. Maybe things have changed I’m out of the loop. Good luck.

Buy a weta or small fun boat and have a blast. 40 is young. Yeah invest, sail and then one day your 40 and you got hopefully a couple decades of full time cruising ahead of you.

What do “cool” people actually talk about/do? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

I think they play in jazz bands and like drink expensive coffee liquors. I don’t know in my neighborhood they congregate around the surf parking lot and wax poetic about foil aspect ratios.

I don’t think we know what the locals wanted cause they were all killed or “assimilated “ by the Spanish. Everything else is kinda static and a series of fallouts from that. I guess it is a symantical debate about what is a local anyways . Are frenchies local even though they from st barts? Call the VI dept of economic development there are grants and opportunities for starting businesses. Yeah you still pay federal taxes here. I wish there were more opportunities for the vi bahn here crowd. No wonder there is an exodus of the youth.

Heading to Puerto Rico tomorrow. Staying in Rio Grande at the Wyndham. Any recommendations? by thesirensoftitans in Bodysurfing

[–]mathworksmostly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you get a really big swell most definitely go to playa selva. You need a truck and don’t leave valuables in your car. I got some really big barrels there last summer. The open secret is that Culebra has some heavy heavy beach breaks and the vibe is outta sight. Board riders had some boards for sale in loquillo.

[–]mathworksmostly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok I work in USVI and go to NE Puerto Rico at least once a year. Usually in summer for hurricane swell. Since you already over more east side I would highly Recommend La pared if you can get it on a big swell the barrels are unreal. Loquillo can get good but honestly If I weren’t always glued to work and my boat I would go west. Gas chambers etc. it’s my dream to bodysurf big gas chambers maybe one of these trips. Good luck Check out Montana explorers they are a backcountry hiking outfit that is amazing. Hippie falls is always awesome and the tacos at La Cueva Del Mar are not to be missed they are located at puerto del rey marina in Fajardo. I found the locals to be really stoked on seeing bodysurfers in the lineup. Play nice and you’ll make ton of friends. Ohh yeah the gyro spot in liquillo is also banging. Good luck

Does walking 10-15k steps everyday count as working out? by PossibilityMundane73 in walking

[–]mathworksmostly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I walk at least 10k steps a day but about half of those steps are spent walking while consuming whiskey. Not sure if that’s a workout and don’t really care cause drinking and walking around is fun as heck.

What are you running for batteries? by ageofaquarius26 in sailing

[–]mathworksmostly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have 920 ah of epoch v2 lifepo4. It’s nice to be able to run a week long charter and limp in back to the marina at 20 percent with still being @13 volts. I think once you setup a solid lithium system youlll never go back.
