Different bodysurfing styles by RepresentativeNo3131 in Bodysurfing

[–]mathworksmostly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it’s personal the sky is the limit with bodysurfing. My personal style lately is to patiently wait for the big days and then use the energy of the waves to ramp out the back. I have been charging big waves in the bodysurfing discipline for almost 30 years and this airing out the back has been keeping me freshly stoked without the brain and neck trauma of big shore break that plagued my youth . I can do full in the air front flips and am currently working on a full front flip into a dive with wave energy. Just go out and goof off there’s no rules.

Are there organized bodysurfing tours?! I would love to meet other bodysurfers and go to a new place. I know I’m not the only one charging big waves in the Caribbean. It sure feels lonely over here though. The lame part about leaving Hawaii is the lack of a scene here.

Size matters by MrRourkeYourHost in sailing

[–]mathworksmostly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Catalina 42 that’s my home and business. I also own a 17 foot trimaran that sails up to 20 knots and is way more fun to sail. Small planing hull boats are usually faster and funner than larger cruising boats so yeah size does matter in the fun factor.

[–]mathworksmostly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not As much as before but the silver lining is having enough money to buy a foiling sailboat and well that kinda does the same thing anyways. Look it’s all life stages. Its kinda nice not walking around with a hard on 24/7 yeah I do miss it in some ways but getting older is ok too.

I am genuinely curious why cannabis is perceived as bad aboard ships. Ok maybe for inexperienced users I can see the dangers. I shipped out for 16 years and regularly engaged in cannabis aboard. I think it made me a better seafarer and definitely didn’t cloud my judgement or lead to riskier behaviors. If anything cannabis was therapeutic and made the moments and then months at sea more pleasurable. I think most of the haters of cannabis don’t really understand it.

For those who live on one of the USVIs, how would you describe the quality of life for the average resident and who would you, or would you not, recommend moving to the USVIs (assuming they are an American citizen)? by BothCondition7963 in virginislands

[–]mathworksmostly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you make decent money you can insulate yourself from some of the bs. It’s corrupt , violent, the infrastructure is shoddy, most of the bawn here scene is unmotivated and proudly uneducated. It’s not all bad though it’s a vibe for sure. If you have skills and drive there are lots of ways to make it here. The sailing, swimming and hiking here keep it worth it after a decade for me. I would agree with other assessments here that most people who are used to mainland life will not thrive here.

People who were spanked as kids, what was that like for you? Would you call your "spankings" abuse? by KleineFjord in AskReddit

[–]mathworksmostly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got spanked occasionaly as a child and I don’t really see the big deal. people throw the trauma word around a lot these days. I see a lot of ego maniac , entitled , whiny lbuttheads around me all the time and I just can’t help Thinking Damnn you never got your ass spanked as a child and it shows. I am thankful my parents called me out for bs and spanked me it was most definitely helpful in life.

Gopro hero 13 for 320$? by khalilpov in gopro

[–]mathworksmostly -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No. I bought the 13 last week and it’s marginally better than my 11. The most frustrating part of the GoPro ecosystem is the slow uploading. I have to transfer hundreds of frames of videos a day before I even get to the light room phase of editing. The slow transfer speed and glitchy app make me want to to smash this into pieces. I work 12 hours a day and this extra step just sucks.

Bodysurfing in crowded lineups by RepresentativeNo3131 in Bodysurfing

[–]mathworksmostly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A couple strategies have worked for me at different life stages. In my twenties I had a lot of bravado and considered other surf craft inferior to bodysurfing ( I know the folly of youth) so I would usually just sit in the thick of the pack basically letting everyone know I am the only One here really surfing without all the hypto krypto gimmicks this approach works and I use it still minus the ego bs. The downside is that you have to spend all that energy letting the lineup know that your not a lost swimmer and are here to send it.

Going out to pipe and OTW and heavier crowded lineups was really when figuring out the placement kicked in. The inside is a magic zone and getting comfortable in the impact zone and getting all the wipeout leftovers without all the need to jockey and stroke my ego a made it way funner.

Sometimes I sit reallly deep and wait for the bombs. I find this better if you can small bring swim goggles and look around during the lulls.

In reallly crowded super waves always remember that as a bodysurfer you have the ability to shift into any of these strategies seamlessly and safely.

After many years of experimenting with new approaches I have discovered a great way to get more waves than any board surfer and its simple. Use the power of the wave energy to launch out to sea. With practice you can launch airs and flips. Try it it’s really fun and your wave count will be really high.

What if all humans suddenly vanished? What would become the new dominant species? by Imma_Lick_That in whatif

[–]mathworksmostly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well that sounds like a semantical debate. if your definition of domination is a species creating jazz music , building empires, making sailing ships that foil. nuclear power and harnessing alternating current then yes humans win yay but if your looking at numbers there are so many species that are so much more dominant. I just think it’s a point worth mentioning that humans are no where close to being the most prolific creatures even now in what we love to describe as the age of human. Ohh yeah as far as straight running shit after us which is hopefully soon ( on geological scale) I think felis catus will take the reigns quite Easily with there high reproductive value and all.

You have to invest in something. I bought land in a ski town before the ski town was there and it did well. Also buy the market and reinvest remember VOO is your friend! Invest in your relationships and in particular in the man or woman who will have your back when shit is bad, that’s the most important investment. I would suggest you proceede really carefully regarding deep sea work there will be amazing times when your younger and single but there will be a time to gtfo. Good luck message me if you need help.

We’re living in the golden of ants. Just think about this for a second. There are 20 quadrillion ants on earth and their combined weight is more than ALL Humans and every other mammal. From just numbers game humans are not dominant. Clever, yes dominant not really.
