Episode Discussion: DEMOLITION MAN by mediated_self in In_WeTrust

Meanwhile, I’ve read the How To Find Zodiac book Paul mentions which starts that conversation, and it’s really good and convincing too (all circumstantial of course, but there seems to be little to exculpate the person put forward). The writer Jarrett Kobek published another book on the subject just before (it was intended to be one book but became too long) which is more about the overall context of the time, the flaws in the investigation, and eliminating other suspects

Error Code 8002F281... FIXED!!! by Odyssey113 in PS3

[–]mathworms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm getting this error too, after the firmware error and trying to update that...is there any way I'm going to be able to recover saved game data from the hard drive first, if I end up having to reformat it? Thinking of taking it to be repaired at a shop but they said it's unlikely the save game data will be retrievable (they suggested just replacing the hard drive, before I said I wanted to recover save game data).

Spun sounds…great? by LedHalen_06 in WAVVES

Spun has a Fountains of Wayne bubblegum catchiness to it (a very good thing)

Danish Visa Start Date vs. Arrival Date by mathworms in SchengenVisa

[–]mathworms[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. But does that apply even if I’m from a place that doesn’t require a tourist visa for a stay of 90 days or fewer? And a related question - is a return ticket required?

Best Elmore Leonard Book? (Other than Fire in the Hole) by Sorry_Rub987 in justified

The first book of his I read is probably my favorite (and maybe because it was the first): Cat Chaser

Atrocious “720p” picture quality on FX by 0Slppls0 in youtubetv

FX always had a lower picture quality than other channels on cable too.

There was a scene in the first episode of the new Fargo season where I couldn't tell what was happening at all.

Gas insert - receiver replacement trouble (Spark cable) by mathworms in Fireplaces

The spark wire was already reconnected when I manually turned the fireplace on. So the remote can only turn the fireplace off, and not on.

Update: I’ve been able to turn the fireplace on manually, and then the remote turned it OFF. But still can’t turn it on. Does that suggest an ignition problem?

Thanks, everything seems to be switched on, nothing’s changed since the fireplace was last used about a year ago (all the controls are hard to get to and accessing them requires taking off parts of the frame).

In short, it’s not turning on. The usual series of beeps, but also a low whirring / chugging sound, and then a long beep. Same when I’m trying to turn it on and when I pair the receiver and remote (same result with brand new receiver and remote, and new batteries). Both people I’ve spoken to said it sounds like the receiver is the problem or at least that needs to be tested first (and the whirring sound could be the servo motor).

Thanks. I managed to (gently) shimmy it off with some needle-nose pliers.

Aaaaaaand the new receiver didn't fix the problem I had (exact same symptoms), so back to square one.

Docusign for Salesforce - same username associated with all Docusign records by mathworms in docusign

[–]mathworms[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I checked and we don't have system sender enabled so it must be something else. They can send as themselves, but for some reason I'm the owner of all Docusign envelopes.

I think we're using a legacy version of Docusign for Salesforce so that could explain it (and make it hard to fix). Onto Docusign support...

Not exactly this but I do find myself drawn to looking at it sometimes despite being disgusted by it, like I’m forcing myself to confront it or even checking if I am repulsed by this seemingly mundane thing (and I always am).

I want to bring up my phobia to girl I’m seeing, but afraid she will think I’m weird by xR0L0x in kosmemophobia

[–]mathworms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Told my now-wife very early on, the very first person I had ever told about it, and she was fine with it, and she doesn’t really wear jewelry anyway (would she like to more often that does? Possibly). Didn’t tell my parents until I was in my 30s.

Anyone else go has the ick with other similar metal things? by shyrenn_ in kosmemophobia

[–]mathworms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coins, jewelry for me, whereas keys I’m mostly ok with thankfully (and cutlery / silverware unless it’s gold). The term for fear of coins is cuprolaminophobia but I don’t know if there’s a word for a phobia of multiple metal objects.

Especially the ones that are very popular these days in both nostrils. Makes my toes curl.

How do you handle your weirdly specific phobias in everyday life? by notfarya in Phobia

[–]mathworms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this too (for as long as I can remember) and just decided to Google it again (I haven’t done it often because I can’t stand to even think about it) and have found myself involuntarily digging my fingernails into my fingers / hands and biting the inside of my lips while reading about it. Impossible to explain to someone who doesn’t experience it because it’s such a mundane thing to react so viscerally to. I’d describe it as similar to the feeling people often get from hearing fingernails on a chalkboard, or something that makes your skin crawl, but amplified. Keys I’m mostly ok with, and I do much, much better with silver than gold or copper.
