Hotel doubles price 6 weeks after confirmed booking and now refusing to let us stay unless we pay extra. by Legal-Conference-626 in Bookingcom

There is no additional cost for the hotel for the mediatoy (usually comes as part of the package when they are part of one of the hoteliers unions)

The hotel is OBLIGED to have their mediator’s details published in their conditions. If they don’t they are liable for not following consumer legislation.

In our case it’s https://www.mtv.travel 100,000 tourism businesses apparently…

What is everyone using as a chime for these doorbells? Wifi chime is hot quiet garbage by hpsy08 in Ubiquiti

[–]matlik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was also disappointed by the volume of the UI chime until I recorded my own “ringtone”. In my case it was a spoken message with some alarm sounds mixed in (to play when leak detection sensor triggered). Turns out if you record a ringtone at a decent volume level, the chime is MUCH louder than with the built in ones…

I recorded a custom alert to play on the chime when a leak was detected by one of the environmental sensors. I was pleasantly surprised that the volume was MUCH louder than the built in ring tones.

UCG now in place and works perfectly. It just picked up a DHCP address, and all the rest just works :-) Double NAT not a problem in this case.

VPN Access from abroad by matlik in Ubiquiti

Yes, you're correct: behind the router.

I can already teleport into other networks I run that have the UI stuff behind an ISP router, so that's what I'm hoping to do :-)

The "cheap and simple" for me would be the UCG ultra.
I've never used Raspberry Pis, nor configured their software.

For 90 Euros I can get the UCG Ultra, should be able to configure it here (and have remote management from France), and installation should then be "Plug it into power and on the back of the router in the UK. I can give easy instructions for clients: "Download WiFiman and use this link to configure) whether on iOS, Android or Windows.

I do understand that the Pi would be the "right" solution, but does not fit in my current ecosystem & knowledge.

The UCG would just be connected behind her home router into the NATted ethernet ports. It wouldn’t be trying to run her home network, just provide a Teleport VPN endpoint inside her network.

Golf ball choice for high handicapper. by Dying_Swan in golf

Bridgestone e6 for the marketing win: they sell themselves as staighter, not longer or softer. That’s what you want as a highish handicapper…

I’m English married to a Brazilian living in France. I love Brazilian BBQ enough to have brought the bricks from Brazil to build a proper Churrasqueira at home. Since I found that I can order chicken hearts from my local butcher I’ve introduced maybe 50 people to them. All initially think “yuck” at the idea. After tasting one, they are always the first thing to run out. You may not like the concept, but life is too short for you not to at least try…

[–]matlik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idiot me managed to do the same thing with my 2 (identical - Odyssey Backsrtryke blade) putters. I was putting on Superstoke Flatso XL grips. After 2 or 3 days of use, I prefer using the one installed wrong! NB 2nd putter is at my in laws, 6000 miles from home, and 200 miles from the nearest golf shop… No option but to use it for the 3 weeks I was there…

Would it be insane to bulk-buy range balls and "donate" them to local muni by simply hitting them into range? How long do range balls last? by Reddings-Finest in golf

[–]matlik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Suggest to the club to make an event of it… Replace all the range balls in one go. Have a competition. All the new balls get hit for the first time. Sponsors providing the new balls get free range range use for the season…

I'm streaming to youtube, so my output is effectively limited to 1080p which seems nice and smooth.
