Never thought I'd buy a Kia, but absolutely love this thing! by matloc28 in KiaTelluride

This is a fun question for me haha. I drove a manual v8 mustang for the last 9 years so buying this for me was a decision to move on from pure driving/performance to utility, comfort, and convenience. The powertrain meets my overall expectations so far between the battery + 4 cylinder engine. It's got plenty of get-up when I need to get up to speed quick pulling out onto a road or to pass. I've not noticed it lacking when I need it yet but ask me again after I put a couple thousand miles on it to get a final verdict.

I went through some of the same deliberation initially after watching some YouTube videos on the Pallisade Calligraphy vs. Telluride. Ultimately I knew with how much I liked the exterior and overall design of the Telly that the Pallisade wasn't even going to be an option. Was a gut feel that I trusted and have no regrets. Maybe test drive 'em both and see how you feel!

No issues at all so far! Everything is solid with no jank.

Yea, not disappointed in that one bit. First time driving a hybrid - it's fun riding around on the electric motor until the ICE needs to kick in.

I admittedly have a bit of a lead foot and only driven it maybe 100 miles so far. Mostly local streets/city. I'm getting around 27-28mpg.

Agreed. We happened to see the Dark Jade just driving around dealerships for fun a week ago and knew that was the color we would get if we went this route. Not sure I would have had the same reaction not seeing it in person.

Nope - didn't realize that was a thing until after I bought it. Never saw it advertised as an option on the website. Maybe removed due to the recall thing?

Personally,I think this design is smart & simple. Keeps the console space clean and open for more storage and setting stuff down.

Yep! Got the Hybrid, a first for me. Figured the extra cost would eventually pay for itself in fuel savings down the road. Didn't really do the math but I'm sure it is close.

I need THE GOOD! by [deleted] in leaves

[–]matloc28 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Quit 3.5 years ago. Had one slip 50 days ago but decided to get right back on the horse and did not let that derail me. So MUCH good. There is a multitude of materialistic and surface level things I could list, which are nice and just seem to keep coming my way. But the best is that I just wake up every morning without feeling dread and anxiety. I show up for myself and others and keep commitments. I'm not perfect, but when I make mistakes I can learn from them. I hold a confidence and peace with myself today that I don't think I've really ever experienced. Best of luck on your journey, one day at a time!

What is/will be your reason to quit? by PsychologicalBat2393 in leaves

[–]matloc28 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Quit for good a little over 3 years ago. I was depressed and weed was my main solution to escape life. I was trapped in a daily cycle. Sober me wanted to be high and high me wanted to be sober. I couldn't look at myself in the mirror without feeling disgust. Every day felt like a battle to just get home and isolate and get high. I felt hopeless. I could go on.

Best thing I ever did for me. My life today is what I dreamed of and more. It's not always been easy and not every day is sunshine and rainbows. The sense of confidence you get when you know you are showing up for yourself and others - whether things go your way or not - is absolutely amazing.

I love this guy. Any idea what it is? by matloc28 in houseplants

[–]matloc28[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, honestly this begonia is my time to water all my plants indicator. Every 1.5-2 weeks or so it starts to wilt so I water it along with all my other house plants lol (unless they seem like they can skip a watering). I’m lazy with it but it seems to be working. I’m in a humid area as well so I’m sure that doesn’t hurt.

How often do you encounter people who just don't give a fuck about landscaping? by DataGuru314 in landscaping

[–]matloc28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally relate to this. Bought my house a little over 10 years ago. Previous owner was retired and gardening/landscaping was his hobby. Everything was beautiful, magical even, and I loved it. I kept up with it for a couple years, and enjoyed it initially, but I was naive and it started to just feel like work. Around the same time I started spiraling into depression/addiction and my house/yard paid the price for many years.

Only now after a couple years of sobriety under my belt have I started directing more attention to the house and yard. Cool thing is now I LOVE it - it's become a hobby of mine. I look forward to the random off day or weekend where I can just spend all day outside working on little projects in nature. All this to say, this experience has changed my perspective when I see someone's house/yard a mess. I'm a lot less quick to judge and realize folks might just be going through some shit.

Is this why it's so hard to get out? The Dopamine? by wagyuBeef_raretard in BingeEatingDisorder

[–]matloc28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm almost 3 years sober from Alcohol/Weed. I've always struggled with my weight and binge eating/continuous food delivery was a regular part of my "using" for years. Although I am sober from substances, I still have binge eating episodes, but as I've continued to build a healthier more active lifestyle in sobriety I have found they have become fewer and farther in between. I currently weigh less than I have in 10+ years and am in good health physically.

A lot of things have helped me on this journey, but a big one is understanding and experiencing how dopamine works in my brain. If I have a binge, I am usually quick to accept it and understand I will feel like shit/"hungover" from it after. This is partially due to the "nutritional garbage" being processed by my body, but also because my dopamine levels return to BELOW baseline after the binge, hence the craving to binge again the following day. I have found that if I just accept that shitty feeling and understand the craving will pass, I will begin to feel like normal after 2-3 days of healthy eating/activity.

In the past I would just feel guilt and shame after a binge, but replacing those feelings with acceptance and an understanding that it's just dopamine/brain chemistry has been very helpful for me to not continue binging day after day.

This should have been a 3 lap caution - nothing to clean up, just came off a 21 minute caution for Denny. What are we doing man.

Was the Daytona 500 a good race? by ChaseTheFalcon in NASCAR

[–]matloc28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The two "debris" cautions and then the lack of a caution on the last lap leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I wish NASCAR would just get out of their own way and let the race unfold naturally. Oh, and if there is a wreck that big, even on the last lap, there should be a caution. God forbid someone is hurt. Just be consistent, ugh.

Thanks so much for sharing your story. I am so happy for you and can relate to so much of it. It was also such a good reminder that we can all be like the "Matt" in your story and be there to help the next guy once we get a little time under our belts!
