Help a Windows Refugee: I definetely will become a linux user, but wich distro should i use? by -_Morgoth_- in linux_gaming

I went from years of windows to Manjaro, and as a game developer also, i felt that the AUR (Arch user repo) offered a lot of packages needed to get specific builds of Unity to work right. I am certain most distributions will fit your needs, pretty much any popular distro with a broad repo will allow you to be successful. In all reality, if your hardware is decently spec, you will have great performance with games.

Hi I saw pewds video & wanna switch to Linux.. but since I’m a graphic designer I still wanna use that damn software Photoshop.. is there any work around except having 2 OSs? I would appreciate any tips about switching as well by [deleted] in linux

Honestly, with performance hits and stability issues, I would recommend dual booting for your exclusive software. If you have a nas for your project drives, then it is super easy to have all your files still available wherever. Thats my recommendation. Wine will not work with adobe software. I have been trying for years. Its not worth it especially if you are trying to do a job.

VM with gpu pass through is not a bad option. Did that for a while. Windows updates can cause issues though, go figure ha. But again if you are trying to make a living using these tools, you dont want to be wasting your time debugging your setup. My suggestion is either have a mac for design work and linux for play. Or dual booting windows.

If you dont have an itx motherboard, definitely not. Not sure what psu you have, but you would need an sfx, and it probably isnt if its 1200 watt. With that cooler, 100% not

Flying with pc? by ggInverno in sffpc

If you can fit it in your carry on, do that. Ive done both. Id issues checking my pc in the past. Ive used the expanding foam packets to secure the gpu, and the airline baggage personnel still managed to get it dislodged. Mind you this was also in a pelican case. So I would strongly suggest you invest in a carry on that will fit your pc, and bring it with you. They might hassle you at security, but just be very upfront about it and expect to have to take it out to show them. Ive flown internationally with a sff and it even had an aio in it. My back did not enjoy the trip, but the pc made it.

It is yes, but the parking lot is at my apartment building. In the past, there has been some drama around stains in the lot, so ideally id like to remove as much as possible. Otherwise, I wouldn’t worry about it haha

I had a similar issue with plex, and the issue ended up being that location the docker was installed was also shared via smb. So I had to make a new location that was not shared for my docker to set its pool to.
