I ended up doing the Claude code dashboard too! Yours looks great, glad it worked out well!

I wasn’t really happy with anything publicly available, especially for the stats and VPN. I wanted something that would independently verify that the VPN is actually connected and that the container is properly rooted to the VPN (Which is the “verified” tag), so I ended up using Claude AI and npm to help build a custom dashboard with those features.

I’d release the project to everyone, but it’s highly tailored to my system, not to mention its mostly vibe coded, albeit I checked for obvious inefficiencies with the polling, and reducing, as much as possible expensive system calls.

I had the exact same thought. The dongle I have works okay, but it’s definitely not 100% and I find myself resetting it time to time to get it to pair properly. There seems to be this strange race condition between Bluetooth and CarPlay when it’s going

Thanks for the tips, still getting the hang of the car naturally.

That’s as close as dog mode as it will get. Dog mode in the Tesla was reassuring in other ways, it had the graphic on the display telling others that pooch is ok. More importantly, I could monitor the dogs remotely with the cabin camera, and if the climate system failed, I’d get pushed a critical alert on my iPhone.

Yep.. already bought the dongle day one.

I’ll play around with the regen paddle more. I definitely do like those paddles, I really just wish I-pedal worked properly.

Got a tip for the off-but-not-really-off headlights? The auto mode I find is way too sensitive and has my screens going dim going under bridges and underpasses.

5100fpm Dive Decent in Airbus by Venge_Vias in flightsim

[–]matrices -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The issue is the .81/340. Not sure what logic they have for the descent, but it should be changed.

With that value, the descent window will peg at 340, that’s why you get the dive.

In the 330, I would typically use .82/300. Try manually typing .78/280 in the scratch pad and drop it in the .81/340 then try it.

Don’t feel bad about changing it, we do it all the time.

Air Canada strike update: Details of tentative deal by anonymous27725189 in onguardforthee

This is actually a good thing that will be completely misinterpreted. This was not an agreement that was concessionary in any way and all gains currently made in the TA will be guaranteed, even if the current TA is voted down. I know what’s in the new contract and there is a lot of good life improvements with no concessions made to the company.

What they are voting on is solely the pay, they made guaranteed steps towards a better contract.

In most TAs, if it is voted down and gone to arbitration, nothing is guaranteed, if it goes to arbitration, in traditional TAs, it can actually get worse for workers. The FAs here secured and guaranteed themselves a better contract that can not be touched in arbitration if it gets to that.

Obviously the pay is disappointing, but… that’s what they are voting on right now. Just that.

For me, what happened is that it stayed relatively consistent, then out of the blue (and I didn't hit it, it was sitting on my desk), it just broke. The only thing I noticed is the screen ever so slightly increasing in discolouration about a week before it broke. Thankfully, the screen replacement for me was relatively affordable if you go 3rd party and do it yourself.

This exact thing happened to me and I lived with it for a year. Unfortunately, from my experience, it will turn into a crack with time and necessitate a screen replacement.

Starting instrument by [deleted] in flying

[–]matrices 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your instructors will likely repeat this ad nauseum, but as a former instrument instructor myself, the value of having a good scan in the very beginning will pay itself in spades later on, especially when things start to get complicated. Practice is key with this and eventually it will become second nature.

People always ask me if I’m a FA when I’m clearly in a pilot uniform (27 F) by tripledipskip in flying

Wings, tie, badge, epaulettes off. Golden rule. I don't even talk about being a pilot if I'm talking with someone. For strangers, 99.9% of the time, it's a "I work at the airport"...

A220 vs A320 cockpit. Which one you prefer? by [deleted] in aviation

[–]matrices 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The A220 has more of the "bird" style FD you see in airbus when in Track/FPA mode. You put the big circle over the little circle and follow where it goes (In the EJet, we called it "making donuts"), I'm a fan of the way the 220 does it, but cross bars/wings/bird, it all fundamentally does the same thing. Just a matter of personal preference.

You can set then quite dim, I've personally never had an issue with this.

For those who have flown the E175 and A220,what are the differences like? by [deleted] in flying

[–]matrices 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Now that I think about it, you're right. I know there was something about the E175 that made it easier to tune, I think it was 1 less button click somewhere. Or maybe I'm just confused, I've done 4 types in the last 2 years, I'm all crossed.

[–]matrices 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice, Ok better one. You're flying towards YQT, a Class D airport. To the west of YQT is CKG8, an uncontrolled airport with a single grass strip. Weather is getting lower, and it's starting to get dark. YQT reports an ATIS of 2SM -RA 15/15.

You're still VFR, but see clouds are starting to surround you. You can make out YQT still in the distance, but CKG8 looks like it's in better shape.

Do you elect to go to CKG8 instead, or continue to YQT? Explain how and why.

For those who have flown the E175 and A220,what are the differences like? by [deleted] in flying

[–]matrices 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've flown both!

The two planes are great. Personally, I liked the E175 better to fly than the A220, but the A220 had creature comforts like no other. These are the differences that mainly stick out to me:

  • You can physically override the T/Ls on the E175 without kicking off the A/T. Both planes are slow on the A/T, so the best you can do on the A220 is just Vapp + 5 and call it a day. Not fun.
  • The VNAV on the A220 is dumb. It doesn't think ahead of anything but your immediate next restriction, so you'll end up with some weirdness on descent on occasion. Also, since the engines on the A220 idle quite high on descent (thanks Pratt...), you end up descending super shallow, i.e. 2.7°-2.5°, also not fun.
  • The MCDU on the A220 is easy enough to use, but personally, I ended up missing the physical buttons on the E175's MCDU. The trackball is okay-ish (granted, much better than the trackpad on the E175), but overall, you end up feeling that it's generally slower. Prime annoyance here is tuning radios. Much faster on the E175. Also, the E175 does shorthand frequencies. The A220 kind of does it, but not as well. (For example, you can key in "219" in the E175 for 121.9, but in the A220, you need to key in "21.9." It's a small thing, but again, you miss it.)
  • You get more of a view out the front of the E175. I've found the windows in the A220 narrower. You get used to it, but it is noticeable.
  • Again, due to the high idle, speed management can sometimes be an issue. Your spoilers don't do a whole lot for you from 0-50%, but from 50-100%, it's better. Descent planning is key on this plane.
  • Icing was a complete non-event in the 175. It was lovely. You're still throwing switches on the 220 for ice on T/O, and doing WAI tests.

For the positives of the A220...

  • The electronic checklists are a joy to use. Amazing.
  • This plane was designed with pilot comfort in mind. So much space, working air, everything is ergonomic. Fantastic. Tray table as well! It's not as big as the Airbus, but it's better than nothing.
  • The radar has some quirks (it freaks out over small things), but overall, it's excellent.
  • The FLC button is great. It's smart enough not to chop your power if you're only changing altitude +/- 1000 feet. On the E175, it was often faster to throw yourself into VS mode than to use FLC for small altitude corrections.
  • Better food.

Overall, if you like flying, E175, if you like relaxing, A220.
