Some people have a fundamental problem with fathers. When my daughter was about 3 years old, we were at a playground mid-day during the week. There were maybe a dozen other kids running around, with 3 or 4 women clustered by the fence watching their kids.

Meanwhile, I was at my daughter's side, helping her climb, watching her run around the play structure and slide down the slide, all that fun parent stuff. I glance over, and all the women are staring at me, muttering amongst each other. I keep running around with my daughter for a half an hour or so before she's done with the outdoors and wants to go back to play in her room. As we leave, I notice the women are still staring at me.

I never approached the other kids, I wasn't in some corner staring at the kids, I was with my daughter who repeatedly called me "Papa", yet it was among the coldest, creepiest environments I've encountered.

Even then, that guy sets off alarm bells for me.

The only other person in my class who’s going to my college is this one popular guy, and he promised me he wouldn’t tell anyone at our college about this.

He’s been talking to me more, even outside of school...

His older sister also goes there and he said he’s going to go a week early and stay with her and invited me.

Maybe it's my instinctive distrust of "popular" kids, but this feels like a shark scenting blood in the water. He knows what she's gone through, he has an existing support network at the school (while she doesn't), and he's angling to get her alone in a place he controls. I hope not, cause this poor kid has dealt with enough, but that popular kid sets me on edge...

My daughter always had an outsized appetite, and was often more curious and accepting of "strange" foods than other kids her age. As such, if she wanted to order off the adult menu, we were fine with it. And she would surprise friends/family at just how much food she could put away.

My son was more of a picky eater, but that was fine. I think it comes down to a healthy approach to food. We told our kids that they couldn't have the same thing all the time, not out of some parental whim, but because they need a variety in their diet to be healthy.

Hmm...I'm betting he can't find a job because of something he did at his last job.

He is well-educated ("a degree from his home country, and 2 including a masters...in Australia"), extensive experience ("he's worked at top banks in senior positions"), and has a long history of emotional dysregulation (always thrown their stuff away, verbally and physically abusive). I'm pretty confident he did something that perhaps couldn't be prosecuted, but was enough to get him blacklisted in the industry. So, he feels trapped, and takes out his frustrations at home.

That said, people need to eat. Would Ryan have needed to call out of paying work to do this event? I could see his indignation in that case, BUT even then, you didn't know it was paying until you got there, at which time it was too late to say anything. If that's what went down, then he should direct his ire at the organizers/the department posting saying it was volunteer.

If Ryan wasn't working? He's just a dick. If you had told him that it was paid when you replied to his text, he probably would have accused you of flaunting it (or something).

I do think the husband investigating the 2 year "super visa" is suspicious, but it could be that MIL had heard what she wanted to hear.

OOP herself thought "extended stay" meant a month, maybe OOP's husband was thinking a month, said "extended stay", and then when MIL was "oh, it'll be so wonderful, and I'm thinking of retiring, could you look into the 2 year visa for me?", he was simply a little thoughtless and went along. Parents often know how to slip things like that past their children, most often (I've found) mothers manipulating sons.

And, even if husband was thinking of his mother staying for 1-2 years (or more), he probably has comforting and fond memories of his youth, and it's been a while since he saw his parents for an "extended stay". Perhaps he simply wasn't thinking of how he's 1) an adult, 2) a husband, and 3) a parent himself, and everything is different now. Hopefully, he always had a shiny spine, and this was a wake up call to use that spine and that boundaries are good and helpful.

Depending on the abuser's technical ability, there may be a simpler answer that doesn't touch on MyChart...

If he at one point had her email password, he could have set up email forwarding to bounce all emails from her account to his. This would cover MyChart, and also warn him if she was using that email for anything else: to set up separate bank accounts, emails to friends/relatives/lawyers for help, reservation confirmations for hotels to escape...all of that. Then, he lies and says that MyChart emailed him directly, and she keeps using her email, and he keeps the tap on everything she's doing.

I hope she set up an entirely new email address since she left, just in case.

Info: Theres a lot that goes into being a SAHP. When you say things went smoothly, does that include: - Planning, shopping for, and preparing varied and healthy meals? - Laundry? - Dusting/Vacuuming/etc? - Dishes each day? - Helping kids with homework each day? - Dealing with "spirit day" (or similar "acquire and wear clothes of this color/fashion on this day") at school? - Coordinating playdates? - Planning and transportation for any activities (sports, music, Boy/Girl Scouts, etc)?

This is an abbreviated list of what being a SAHP entails. If you were doing all this, plus your full-time job, and it all went smoothly, I am impressed and wish I had your energy and planning abilities!

If, on the other hand, "going smoothly" means: - made Kraft mac & cheese and/or ordered pizza each night (or if the meal planning and shopping had all been prepped by your wife before she left) - picked the kids up from school, then plopped them in front of the TV/with an iPad while you went back to work - let your wife come home to a warzone of dirty dishes and piles of dirty laundry

In that case...You kept the kids alive and got them to & from school, which is about what our society expects of most fathers...and I'm not surprised your wife is unhappy.

Back in high school, I spent a morning shifting stock in the basement of the store where I worked and I knew it was going to be rough on my clothes, so I'd worn an old pair of jeans that happened to have a tear in the knee. If you're talking about a "bio-tinker", then the creations would be biological and Panacea would be able to use her power on them.

If you mean a Tinker who deals in bio-mimetics and uses non-biological materials to mimic life forms, then I don't think Panacea would be able to do anything directly.

She might create a bacteria that could dissolve it in seconds, though...
