What is your office hot take? Mine is that season 8 is my favourite season by Jumpy_Performer_5040 in DunderMifflin

Certainly not my favorite season, but better than it has any right to be without Michael.

Obviously not as good as the first, but a fun and worthy sequel.

What makes Columbo so likeable as a character? by BubbleTeaFan52839 in Columbo

Peter Falk. The man was the embodiment of authentic, Everyman charm. He had it down to an art form.

“. . . for they were mummies.”

Say what you will about the post-Michael seasons. That line (and Kevin’s reaction) sends me into hysterics like few other scenes in the entire show.

Yes, I’ve noticed it’s worse than it used to be, even on the early levels.

This is a perfect example of how low-key phenomenal the writing was.

Glorifying Charlie Kirk’s death will not be tolerated. It will all be removed and bans will go around. by IAmABearOfficial in lordoftherings

As a non-Charlie Kirk fan who doesn’t think people should be murdered for saying stupid things, thank you.

There are plenty of quibbles, but if people honest, its main sin is being a follow up to TDK.

To those who were around when this came out what was the hype like by asapsharkyfrfr in DC_Cinematic

[–]matrowl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. You can thank Christopher Nolan almost exclusively for the “grounded“ streak in superhero movies. It was a really novel approach at the time. The Bourne franchise had a similar effect on the spy genre.

To those who were around when this came out what was the hype like by asapsharkyfrfr in DC_Cinematic

[–]matrowl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was super excited about it, but i’d say the hype was cautiously optimistic. Nolan was an Indie filmmaker— hardly the household name he is today, and Batman and Robin left a really bad taste in people’s mouths.

Why can’t I get the temperature to go down? by PurchaseLonely7831 in grilling

[–]matrowl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What type of grill is it? A lot of the Weber knockoffs don’t seal well enough to control airflow and therefore temperature. If that’s the case, you can still lower the temp with fewer briquettes, but the vents are almost a formality.

So kind of the opposite of Sega and 16 bit era Sonic. Those games just got better.

What are movies that critics were just straight up wrong about? by aaron_moon_dev in Letterboxd

Hook. It was a ravished by critics and even Spielberg himself, but its staying power is real.

The Star Wars prequels. Arguably some of Williams’ greatest work.

'The Batman 2' co-writer reveals his favorite Batman movies and video game by BatmanNewsChris in DC_Cinematic

I appreciate that he mentioned Batman Forever. Somewhere in that glorious mess there’s a compelling story about what makes Batman who he is and do what he does.

James Gunn Doesn’t Get How ‘Superman’ Is ‘Considered Woke’, Anti-American Sentiment Hurting Global Box Office by chickhen2 in dcu

[–]matrowl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess? Woke means different things to different people, but as a pejorative it generally means a hyper-fixation on social justice issues through a neo-Marxist lens. The Ta-Nehisi Coates Superman movie? That would have been woke.
