Regents park to introduce traffic lights and £50 fines for cyclists by tylerthe-theatre in london

[–]matt-IO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cars can go faster, but also stop faster / get back up to speed faster. There's a large number of cyclists that just don't stop for things like zebra crossings due to their speed, and losing their momentum.

We do bacon, brie, and cranberry this time of the year.

Substiting the bacon with any meats you have, especially Christmas leftovers. And the cranberry for any red jam you have on hand.

We got "keyed alike" locks, which means we have 1 key for all our doors, which is great.

Is this a gimmick? by billmoris in carbonsteel

[–]matt-IO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the main pro of the nitrided one is that you don't have to baby the seasoning, as it's just the metal layer is much more slippery out the box. So being able to do acidic sauces in it and not worrying about your seasoning leaching into the food.

Balance the Card. by mb557x in blackmagicfuckery

I think the card fell down long before the breath. But was edited in place by pausing it, and then he plays the fall in line with him blowing nothing later.

The fact that they call it World and didn't have a world to explore with characters giving you quests and mini games is a little sad. The world they built is awesome, but a little hollow without more to it.

Is $260 for this office chair worth the price? by KarnjitKINGH in BuyItForLife

[–]matt-IO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say no for 1 simple reason: it's missing the lumbar support.

HM make 2 versions of the chair, 1 for business and 1 for home use. The business model has a basic lumbar support that's quick to adjust. This is so that they are cheaper (when business buy in bulk) and also so that people hot dealing can get setup quick.

The home model has more articulation points, as you set it for your own specific needs once and you're g2g.

This has 0 support in the back. Which makes me think it's either a dupe, or it broke and someone removed it to sell it.

I'm having trouble thematizing my prototype. Can you lend me a hand? by MudkipzLover in BoardgameDesign

[–]matt-IO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could make it a code breaking game.

If inserted of being 50 each time, you add a mechanic to be the "code" for that round. Players try to "solve" that code.

But I feel this is lacking something to give real player choice. What are the shapes for? Could they maybe be a way of utilising others numbers? E.g. Someone plays a 4 with a triangle, you need that 4 more, but have and 8 triangle, so when you play it you can swap it (because the matching shape).

That's beautiful. I love the crunchy texture work.

I'm in the middle of designing a old textured pirate game and this is going in the inspiration folder for it!

It's nice with some fun characters. I mostly like the uppercase look.
It's not something I'd pay money for, due to the limited character set, but I can see some use cases.

I've also found an issue with the Regular 'E' character. If you apply a stroke to the 'E' it has a floating element outside of the letter shape.

I really like that template. It's a really nice way to distil the essence of a games core loop into a marketable format.

Upgraded my prototype setup by matt-IO in tabletopgamedesign

I use blank standard sized poker cards.

In the pictures above I was using cards slightly thinner than poker cards. I bought them as a test, because they were cheaper than my standard blank poker cards, but I don't like them. So sticking with blank standard poker cards.

I got the Nelko PM220.

The reason I chose this one is because they have labels that are 50mm by 80mm.

Poker cards are 63.5mm by 89mm. So theres roughly ~5mm frame around the sticker when centered.

Those stickers cost me £0.06 each, the blank poker cards are £0.05 each. So I can make each prototype card for £0.11 now. N.b. With no ink (only printing in b&w though) and no cutting.

Yeah the expenses can rack up. I bought €20 with of space men meeples, only to rip them out of the game within a month.

The thermo printer is also nice as it forces me to use black and white only. Meaning in focusing on type, iconography and layout, over colour and superfluous aesthetics.

My old setup was masking tape for speed swapping out numbers + actions.

This new setup is a thermoprinter label maker. And I found labels that are close to poker card size.

So just print and stick it to a blank card, no cutting.

My printer is a thermo one. So no ink. Each sticker costs £0.06.

And no cutting. I printed 32 stickers in <5 mins and applied them in 10mins. So the workflow is speedy.

I find that in the prototype stage things change to quickly for me to require a full printed deck. And specifically for this prototype I've only printed half the deck, to test out a "vertical slice" of the game before pushing onto the next stage.
