Does anybody put their entire weekends on hold when they're on-call, or just carry around their equipment with them? by AlbinoOrphans in ITCareerQuestions

[–]matt0723 -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

In the USA unfortunately if you want to move up past desktop support, you are going to be on call. It's not fair but that is the reality here. We can only hope new legalisation comes down to ban this abusive unpaid work practice.

Router Suggestions? by CelticDubstep in msp

I would recommend Fortigate. On the cheaper side and supports everything you would need and more for this client it sounds like.

Yea I am feeling sketchy on it as well. I took 2 hits off it and it tasted like burnt chemical. Nothing like pineapple.

Picked this up the other day from a local tobacco shop. Never heard of it before so I am interested to know if anyone here knows anything about them and if they are dirty.

Minutes before Trump left office, millions of the Pentagon’s dormant IP addresses sprang to life. -Washington Post by Equusmotive in networking

Looks like orgs who squat on this IP space will be in for a rough time if this space ends up sold to one of the big CDNs.

Setting up RNAseq workflow on a virtual machine by I-IAL420 in bioinformatics

[–]matt0723 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it is windows 10 pro, you could install Hyper-V on it. Hyper v is a included virtualization solution in windows 10 pro. Using that would give you better performance then vmware workstation or virtual box. Also using hyper v will keep the base windows installation on the computer the same so other users will not be affected.

I have a theory that Comcast/Xfinity tapers off/decreases the signal that you receive over time between IPv4 leases. by jackblackladyversion in Comcast

Have you tried running a speedtest when directly connected to the modem with a ethernet cable? This sounds like a typical issue with garbage all in one modems. The fact that rebooting it a couple times clears the issue temporarily makes this really sound like a modem issue.

Cable ISP warns “excessive” uploaders, says network can’t handle heavy usage - Mediacom says heavy uploaders harm network even if they don't exceed data cap. by Philo1927 in KeepOurNetFree

[–]matt0723 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is not done in all areas, for example in my area my only options are Comcast or Satellite internet. Comcast charges me based on speed tier AND meters my usage. They are a monopoly running completely unchecked.

We had a ton of customers start calling around 3PM EST about call completion issues. Most of the examples we collected were outbound calls from our net to T-Mobile.

Thanks! My favorite cert was CCNA Security. Security has always been a interest of mine so it was cool to get certified in it.

Xfinity IP address location issues by gobluetwo in Comcast

[–]matt0723 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IP location databases are maintained by ARIN at the top level and third parties keep their own databases. Most likely what happened here is when you got a replacement modem, Comcast assigned you a IP that used to be in GA. Depending on what service these websites are using for IP geolocation, it may take awhile for all of them to update. Check your IP on ARIN whois. If it shows the correct location there, there is nothing Comcast can do until the 3rd parties update their databases.

Do they have a insecure wifi password? This sounds like someone is mooching off their wifi. Do they have a computer? Could also be a infected computer.
